Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x25" x 8 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

Good quality butcher block. Thin strips ~ 13/16", gives a busy look but very pleasant mix of dark & light maple. Finish is good; you will want to give a final sand with 150 grit and check for minor imperfections. Some gapping at butt joints; comes already filled.
Over all a great product for the price compared to other brands.

We were concerned about the quality of this butcher block countertop from the reviews we read but were pleasantly surprised with how great the quality was and how easy they were to customize and install. The finished counters are beautiful and get more compliments than any other renovation we have done. I would definitely use this product again and would recommend to friends.

I read poor reviews about this product having other wood species and bad voids hidden in the laminations, I installed it and cut around a farm sink and sectioned it in 3 places and found the product to be well made with good integrity wherever it was cut. Excellent value for the price. Customer loved it.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x25" x 8 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

We bought this countertop hoping to save a few dollars compared to a more premium product. If you're looking for a nice butcher block to use in your kitchen, here are a few points to consider about this particular option:

-The individual rails are about 3/4". This is by far narrower than any other block I have looked at. Grab a tape measure and really visualize if this is a look that you're good with. Some may be fine with this, I wasn't.

                - The butt joints are not flush on all four sides. What this means, is that if you have a butt joint on the front rail of your countertop, the line where the two pieces of wood meet looks like a chair.

Other than the two points above, it's about what I was expecting. The logo for Williamsburg Butcher Block Company is branded - badly - on the front profile of one of the corners. As long as you can cut that bit off, or put it towards the wall, that should be ok.

We opted to return this and go with something else.

                Service and delivery comments:

The butcher block came in faster than expected. I got a prompt call from the store, and it was easy to schedule a pickup.

When I arrived, it was obvious the box had been damaged in shipping. The store manager assured me that everything would be fine, and I could bring it back if I wanted.

After opening the box at home, and discovering the countertop was damaged, I returned it within a few days with no problems.

Counter top is decent but was disappointed to find that there were spot on the countertop where joints were filled with putty and a bit sloppy. Hard to believe somehting that is food grade (chopping block) has wood putty to fill cracks rather that better construction... Next time will build my own or pay for something better. Cant even imagainge what the builders grade is like being its cheaper.

This would have been better if the back side of the board had gaps filled and plugged like the top side. I made one small error on the top side during installation and would have been able to correct it by turning the board over.

Butcher block is beautiful, but we were sad to open it up and find damage on both sides. Someone had attempted to fix it with wood filer, but they did not even bother to sand it after doing so. It was still tacky to the touch where they tried to fix it. My husband was able to make it look much better, but that is not what you expect with a brand new counter.

It was mentioned in another answer that this is not a single solid piece of maple. Does that mean that an exposed cut end will not look the similar an end that hasn't been cut? In other words, I know it's possible to put in an undermount sink or cut to fit an island, but I'm wondering if the edges will look different than the uncut edges as it is out of the box (are the edges before it is cut concealing something different on the inside).
                            Thank you.

What finish if any is on this material? I'd like to stain it and need to know if it is unfinished or not.

                              A:

Our sizes are as stated on the product page only, however two sections can be joined together.

                              1) For a good glue edge bond; using a straight edge guide and saw recut 1/2"or so off one side of each.

                              2) For center support and strength; Use a biscuit jointer or doweling jig, then wood glue the edges and bar-clamp until dry, re-sand. Add a beam to the counter to help support the seam joint.
