Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x25" x 8 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

This would have been better if the back side of the board had gaps filled and plugged like the top side. I made one small error on the top side during installation and would have been able to correct it by turning the board over.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x25" x 8 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

Butcher block is beautiful, but we were sad to open it up and find damage on both sides. Someone had attempted to fix it with wood filer, but they did not even bother to sand it after doing so. It was still tacky to the touch where they tried to fix it. My husband was able to make it look much better, but that is not what you expect with a brand new counter.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x25" x 8 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

I had to purchase this in lieu of the IKEA ones because of availability. I was dubious as to the quality and I am so thrilled. First, I am reviewing the AMERICAN made butcher block countertop, which is slightly more expensive. Very lovely, looks great on the use side, minimal glued seams showing on the bottom side (which as a countertop you don't see. My contractor told me that these are thicker than the IKEA ones, so even though I spent a bit more, I got more depth and due to the fact that they are longer, I was able to get TWO huge butcher block cutting boards when we were done. The two pieces I purchased, one 12ft. long and one 8ft. long created one large L shaped counter and one large counter/bar seating on the other side. They look gorgeous. We let them acclimate to the space for several days, then oiled them 3 times with mineral oil.
The customer service was fantastic, they helped me from the phone staff to the store staff. I will be shopping here as often as I can. I'm going back for a butcher block board for my mother. And delivery was perfect, coming when we needed it due to the great store staff who made it happen.

The maple top was well made in the USA, but I felt that there was too much wood fill in a large amount of voids, though I was told there would be "some."

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x25" x 8 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

This butcher block countertop is not of high enough quality to go into a nice kitchen. I installed in a laundry room so not so bad. There was an imperfection on one side which made that side unusable. The other side had several voids that were very poorly filled with putty. One end was not cut square and had to be recut.

          • Q:

It was mentioned in another answer that this is not a single solid piece of maple. Does that mean that an exposed cut end will not look the similar an end that hasn't been cut? In other words, I know it's possible to put in an undermount sink or cut to fit an island, but I'm wondering if the edges will look different than the uncut edges as it is out of the box (are the edges before it is cut concealing something different on the inside).
            Thank you.

True this Butcher block is not a single solid piece of maple but is 3/4" x 1-1/2" strips glued together.
When cut the new cut edges will look like the factory edges (all wood).
              Thank you for your inquiry.

Our sizes are as stated on the product page only, however two sections can be joined together.

              1) For a good glue edge bond; using a straight edge guide and saw recut 1/2"or so off one side of each.

              2) For center support and strength; Use a biscuit jointer or doweling jig, then wood glue the edges and bar-clamp until dry, re-sand. Add a beam to the counter to help support the seam joint.

We listed the species on the Product Genus and Species form we completed, which I have attached. We listed the common Maple species for this product to communicate that each species can find its way into the other in lumber manufacturing because they cannot always be identified apart. So for example, if we buy Maple lumber to supplement our production, you could often find both in a shipment undetectable.

              Hope this helps.
