Select is the most uniform plank and has the smallest knots and the longest average length. Natural has some color variation, mineral coloring and small pin knots. And for old-schoolers, there's Rustic with large knots and the most color variation.

The hardness of wood reflects its durability and workability. It is measured by a process called the Janka hardness test. This testing establishes the resistance of wood to wear or denting. The higher the number, the more durable the wood.

The veneer refers to the top layer of wood on an engineered hardwood floor. The hardwood thickness found on engineered floors typically ranges from 0.6mm to 4.5mm.

Float - Leaving a floor unsecured to the subfloor. This is a simple method and can usually be installed by the average Joe or Jane.
Glue - This installation can get a bit sticky (literally). Depending on your skill level, you might want to consult a professional for this one.
Nail or Staple - Everyone knows how to use a hammer. But on rare occasions (mostly with harder exotic woods) a drill is needed to allow for a nail.
