Stair Treads, Noses & Risers Overview
Conventional Treads
Treads are the flat surface of your stairs, the part that you step (tread) on. LL Flooring carries a variety of treads that can withstand heavy foot traffic, ensuring durability and longevity for your stairs. When selecting treads, you'll also want to consider the layout of your stairs. For open staircases, you'll need to know on which side your stairs meet the adjacent wall to determine whether you need right- or left-hand treads. If you have a closed staircase, with walls on both sides, box treads are a suitable option.
Additionally, you should keep the depth of your treads in mind. LL Flooring carries treads of various depths and can help you select one that fits your stairs correctly and makes them comfortable to use.
Conventional Risers
Risers are the vertical boards that 'rise' to the next tread of a staircase. You can choose risers that match the material of your new flooring, creating a complete look for your home. Alternatively, some customers prefer to paint risers a solid color, creating a striking contrast with the wood-look of their flooring and stair treads.
Stair Noses
A stair nose, sometimes called a bull nose, finishes the end of a step by making the corner smooth. LL Flooring carries stair noses that include the tread, allowing for one seamless installation. A properly installed nose can make a world of difference to the look and feel of your stairs, ensuring a smooth transition between steps that is comfortable for your feet.
Retrofit Treads and Risers
Retrofit treads and risers are a popular option for DIY projects and upgrades. They are designed to be placed over existing stairs, such as replacing carpeted stairs with steps to match or complement your new hardwood flooring. Since they have the support of an existing staircase, they are typically thinner than standard risers and treads. At LL Flooring, we offer matching retrofit options to coordinate with every floor we sell.
