I bought a clearance laminate, and paid nearly as much for this underlayment as the floor. But it has done an excellent job of reducing noise and flex. I put the laminate down over an old, non-tounge and groove strip floor that was seriously warped and cupped. The Quiet Walk bridged it all with no problem.

Used this under a floating laminate floor. Took about 10 minutes to roll it out, cut to size, tape the seams and get to work on the main part of the project. It's just 1 piece - no pad plus vapor barrier to play with - so install was a snap. It also feels like it gives some nice softness under the laminate floor. Worth the extra money over the bargain priced stuff.

We've never had hardwood floors before so we aren't 100% sure what they are supposed to sound like when you walk on them. We do hear creaks and some noise when we walk on the floors but I guess some of that is normal. You would never be able to sneak up on someone walking on the wood floors.
My husband had absolutely no experience in laying wood floors or the underlayment and he had no trouble at all.

Best Uses:
Engineered floating floor
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

A friend installed an engineered hardwood floating floor, also purchased at Lumber Liquidators, in my home. I decided to go ahead and spend the money for the Quiet Walk, which was a little difficult because of the price difference. But we just taped the rolls of Quiet Walk together with painters tape and turned the insulation side down for floating floors and that was it. Floor sounds like it is nailed down. It also eases the requirement for perfectly level floors a bit. I wouldn't use the cheap stuff now that I know. Get the good stuff. The floor is too expensive an investment to go cheap on the padding.

We installed Quiet Walk under a carbonized bamboo floor that was click and lock &.5" wide planks. My biggest concern was that there would be a hollow sound when we walked on it, especially since we were installing it on a slab. My concern proved to be unwarranted.

Vapor barrier included with underlayment should help prevent water damage and at the same time the underlayment does reduce if not eliminate noise generated by the flooring. All my experance with "floating floors" were not so good because they sounded like you were walking on loose plywood. They had the beauty of wood floors but not the feel! The guys at Lumber Liquidators assured me that if I spent a few extra dollars on the Quiet Walk underlayment, that it would deliver that solid feel to the floor. They were right. The underlyment did the trick. My new cherry floors are beautiful and solid sounding. I could not be more pleased.

This is definately worth its cost! So far, we have installed it under 6mm laminate flooring on an upstairs level of our home. It truely eliminates the noise of the old subflooring creaks. It also provides a cushion feel when you walk. People are surprised that it is a comfortable floor to walk on. The only negative about it, is that it is difficult to cut with a razor knife. I suggest using scisors, but its rather thick.

By Mona LisaVerified Reviewer from Chicago, IL on 4/24/2008
Pros:
Easy To Install, Reduces Noise
Best Uses:
Hardwood Floors, Home
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have a cement slab subfloor under my engineered wood floor and Quite Walk Underlayment helps keep my floor from feeling cold like when I had the lenoleum tile floor. I wasn't sure at first on how to install, but the instructions are very simple and clear... not much thought needed. The only noise I get from my floor is solid wood, no hollow spots or ecko. I will always use this underlayment in the future.

The only thing that might be considered a con is that the matterial it's made of makes it a little hard to cut. Though, it's a very small set back. Be patient...it's worth it!

Tip: It's more easily cut with a very sharp scissors rather than a utility knife.

Upgraded from the foam padding
By GastonVerified Reviewer from Houston, TX on 4/23/2008
Pros:
Reduces Noise
Cons:
Difficult To Install
Best Uses:
Laminate Floors
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I upgraded from foam to this material after reading comments on this site and others. People mentioned that it was a lot quieter than foam and that's what I wanted. Another added benefit is that this includes an underlayment layer on the bottom. My first impression was that it wasn't as thick as I expected, maybe even less than the foam padding. Also, it does require some very sharp scissors or knife to cut. Do yourself a favor and get some heavy duty scissors. Once I got it down, it has reduced the noise level but not a lot. It's double the cost of the foam padding but it appears to be an improvement worth paying for.

This is only the second time I've installed laminate flooring. The first time, I used the least expensive underlayment I could find. I did okay, but with time, I know I should have used a better product.

This time, I selected a better underlayment. The floor has been installed for a month now and I notice the difference. Not only does it feel better when I walk on it...it's absolutely silent. So far, so good. I suspect it will remain a good choice for years to come.

We just love it and it was easy to install and holds up real well with our dog, easy to maintain and adds a wonderful look to any room.WE had a few of pieces that was chipped or the tongue and groove on some pieces was broken but we just set them pieces aside and will use them as ends or something when we proceed into the living room floor next.Overall we love the look and the simpleness of the product.

After having a friend help me with a different room I decided to tackle this project alone. We used a cheaper padding for that room and you can feel it. This padding is much less expensive [...] has more padding too. I have and continue to highly recommend this product as well as Lumber Liquidators. I was given great advice and the floor looks great.
