Comments about Mapei Ultrabond 990 Adhesive (5 Gal):

This is a good easy to use glue. We used this to install 3/8" Hardwood flooring in our hallway. This stuff works great but it gets on everything once you open the can. I would recommend the use of lots of paper towels and a bottle of adhesive remover.

Comments about Mapei Ultrabond 990 Adhesive (5 Gal):

Compared to water based adhesives, this product gives you a very long work time before it skins over, but still has strong initial hold. Sliding of flooring can be a problem...keep an eye out for joints that were installed a half-hour to an hour previous....the gap can increase. DEFINITELY cover trowel and applicator spatula (if you use one) with duct tape to all but the edges if you ever want to use these a second day as even mineral spirits don't clean this stuff well! You MUST get the urethane cleaner (the towelettes are expensive, but very convenient), as you WILL get this stuff on the finished floor.

When i opened the can, about 2" of glue was dried on top, had to use a box cuter to cut off top glue. Then glue was so think you could barely move it with a trayl. My wrist & arm was very sore. I will not use this again.

Comments about Mapei Ultrabond 990 Adhesive (5 Gal):

The adhesive qualities of the glue were wonderful. It had great working time once spread. However, this stuff is nasty to work with. It's first of all difficult to get out of the can and spread. Then, it gets on EVERYTHING and is difficult to get off. I used mineral spirits as recommended to remove the glue before it dried. I found that my wood floor was dulled in places where I wiped with the mineral spirits. I got some of the glue on my arms and didn't clean it off before it dried. It took a week before I could get it off.

I was told the entire 5 gallon pail would cover my 200 sq ft floor. I only made it through about 125 sq ft before running out. I don't believe I was spreading it took thick. I used the trowel recommended in the store and spread it with the tongue of the trowel scraping against the concrete floor. I switched to a water based glue for the remaining portion of the floor. It didn't have near as good of a working time (hazed over relatively quickly), but the clean-up was much, much better. The flooring where I used the water based glue has a lot more luster than where I used the urethane glue. I ended up having to coat the floor with a urethane sealer to get the gloss back. It looks fantastic now.

Comments about Mapei Ultrabond 990 Adhesive (5 Gal):

Our installers used this product based on a recommendation from Lumber Liquidators staff. It worked very well, had no toxic solvent odor and "firmed up" within 2-4 hours of laying the planks.

It's been 3 weeks and we're still trying to remove the small areas of spillover, footprints and a few smudges between the planks. Paint thinner is NOT really cutting it!

Comments about Mapei Ultrabond 990 Adhesive (5 Gal):

This product was much easier to use than other adhesives I have used in the past. I also like the light brown color which blends in should some of the glue get pushed up through the planks. In all I was very happy with the products preformance.
