I bought the butcher block for a Island that I made. I took the 8' and ripped it in half on the table saw. I glued and clamped together and made a 42" radius butcher block.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x25" x 8 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

The wood in this block ciountertop is beautiful. The quality of construction not so much. There's filler at several wood end joints and a few wood chips. Using 2/3 of the 8' legnth and a sink cut out will eliminate most of it. Fortunately it's for a laundry room juicing counter, not high visibility. Still a good value. Couldn't beat the price! Know it's limitations.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x25" x 8 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

We replaced the original laminate counters in our house with the maple butcher block and love them. The have an undercounter mounted sink, so to make sure the water didn't damage the wood we sealed them with Waterlox. That stuff is amazing. It seals the wood well enough that water just beads off of it and it looks beautiful; it brings out the natural iridescence of the wood. I highly, highly recommend the Waterlox if you are going to be installing the butcher block in your kitchen. Also, the waterlox is non-toxic once it is dry. As an added bonus, when the carpenter cut out the sink hole we had him save it and make us a cutting board out of it. Nice big cutting boards are usually so expensive and this one didn't cost us any extra.

I have never seen a butcher block countertop with huge chunks of wood putty in it to fill out areas...also the material selection and the way it was glued up were not at all up to my expectations.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x25" x 8 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

Not as nice as a custom butcher block, but the price was right. Gaps between blocks were larger than expected and not well sealed. After sanding and multiple coats of mineral oil it is wearing in nicely. Would highly recommend for a workbench, but maybe upgrade to something else for kitchen chopping.

This is a god countertop choice for DIY. It is easy to cut and install. It does require monthly sealing with a food-safe mineral oil. Wine and other foods can stain it. Stains can be easily sanded out.

Easier to finish than granite, much cheaper and a dramatic upgrade from laminate.

One of my counter lengths is 11 feet long, and I could find no stock laminate that long. I did some price hunting and found that butcher block was only slightly less costly than custom laminate. I love the butcher block! You can't throw the car transmission on it, or bleach out the garbage can lid on it... but it's very durable and looks amazing.

I didn't buy this for our kitchen, but for the kitchen cabinets that I moved to our garage. After re-cycling the base cabinets, I needed new countertops that would work for my woodworking hobby. The Maple Butcher Block countertops from Lumber Liquidators provide the perfect solution. They are high quality and provide good value. I'm fully satisfied. I do lots of woodworking and therefore have a good idea of what solid maple lumber costs. This is a bargain![...]Don't get me wrong, this unit would also be great as a kitchen countertop.

We added on to our kitchen and this is the least expensive place we found for butcher block countertop but don't let the price fool you. The quality of the countertop is top notch. We bought tung oil to finish it with and everyone is breath taken by our new countertop and wants to know where we got it. There were no flaws and was ready for a finish after some light sanding! We will be ordering more when we refinish the rest of the kitchen to match the addition and are encouraging everyone we know to buy it!

A very inexpensive alternative to granite but requires much more upkeep. Material is very heavy so you had better get help while transporting and installing. Do your research on how to install, seal and maintain. It's a beautiful and good quality material that should hold up well for years with proper care. Take your time during installation and it will look great. Don't expect local tradesmen to know proper installation techniques, do your own research!

Service & Delivery comments:

Had visited Springfield store before starting kitchen remodel. Was shown maple countertops and was immediately sold. Inquired about preordering but was told product was ALWAYS in stock, even though they had just sold out! Well you guessed it, when I was ready the store didn't have any in stock... Fortunately the Fayetteville AR. store had in stock and the drive wasn't much further. The service at the store was very good.

I bought 2 12ft pieces and an 8ft piece to use as a desk in my new office. The design worked out perfectly and the desk is substantial, to say the least. I have chosen to leave it natural, a little sanding on a few rough spots is all it needed. All three pieces came with no damage to edges or ends as some others had noted. Good buy.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x25" x 8 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

Used the butcher block as a countertop on kitchen island/bar to try it out. We are going to remodel our kitchen, so have been exploring top of the line countertops. Granite is very attrative but needs a lot of care: Must be sealed with toxic sealer every year and what happens if it cracks? It is also very expensive and what happens in 10 years when it is out of fashion? Big bucks down the drain, I think. Fashions change very quickly as we all know. I watch a lot of design shows and there are indications that butchblock is the next big thing in kitchens. Very attractive, easy to clean, easy to seal with tung oil, stain and heat resistant, easy to install, and you don't need a pro to do it. If it ends up scratched, just give it a light sanding. When we remodel we have decided we like the look of butcherblock well enough to install it everywhere.[...]

Great quality and very easy to work with.
I sealed mine first with a spar-varnish (I never intended to use this to prep food on). The Spar gave it a nice look, but was very soft and scratched easily.

So I sanded it all down again and used a hand rub poly that looks good and doesn't scratch so easily. I also added trim to the counter as well to give it a more finished look. Overall I am very happy with this purchase!

We had previously purchased the 12' unfinished maple butcher block, and it was great. This 8' unfinished one was very poorly made, with dings in the wood, wide seams in the wood, orange paste of some kind used in other seams. All in all of very poor quality

I needed to replace a countertop in a well-preserved 60s style kitchen. The laminant countertop white with gold "sparks" was in ace condition and the island needed to be adjacent to wonderful birch cabinets. (Sometimes, a complete tear-out is just not in order.)

The butcher block island is perfectly placed and blends with the retro chique of our remodel. Functional to the MAX!!!

This was the highest quality product available at the lowest price. There were no complaints at all about the product. I used the product for my kitchen counters, and had a nearby professional shop, cut the sink opening and ends to size. Everything worked out perfectly, and the end product was cheaper than tile, and a lot easier. The fellows who loaded it in my car were very helpful.

The maple butcher block is a fabulous product, a wonderful choice for finishing our new kitchen. The craftmanship is great. The maple is incredibly hard wood that almost burned the router. We sanded it and applied 2 coats of water base wipe-on polyurethane. Finished with 2 coats of satin Spar Urethane and the counter is water proof and glowing. Only drawback, it's too beautiful to use! (We have plenty of cutting boards handy.)

I bought 2 12 ft because I needed a 9 1/2 x 40" island top. Biscuit jointed (Very easy) for added stability and glued the 2 sections together lengthwise. Cut the end off to length, ripped to width. Worked out great! Here's the kicker! We made cutting boards out of the scrap. We had enough wood for 8 14x10's and 8 14x12's sold at[$] respectively. The cutting boards paid for our counter top. If you don't have an outlet to sell the boards, they would make nice gifts.

We used the butcher block for an island in our large kitchen upstairs. We liked how it turned out so much that when we finished off our basement with a small kitchen we decided to do the butcher block again. For the wider island we just ripped two counter tops and glued them together so we have a finished side all the way around (counter tops are only finished on one side). The seam blends right in the butcher block.

I just remodeled my whole kitchen making it a gourmet cooks dream. I created a large granite island with a granite serving bar. But, because I cook so much, I didn't want a surface that needed much maintenance. So - I purchased 30+ feet of the maple countertop. WOW! You talk about value and good looks. Everyone that comes into my house always compliments on my high dollar countertops... and to think - I spent less than $500.00 on these NO NAME BRAND countertops. Easy to cut, easy to install, easy to finish, and easy to maintain. You can pay a whole lot more for maple countertops, but you won't find anything any nicer - especially at these prices. All my future homes and rental property will have these countertops in them!! THANKS LUMBER LIQUIDATORS FOR OPENING A STORE IN LITTLE ROCK, AR

Choosing a parafin finish means repeated applications. If one chose to use a chemical finish such as varnish it would be a simple process.
