I researched underlayments for a long time for use under 3/4" Nail Down Hardwood. I did a lot of research on this. Lumber Liquidators recommended the quiet walk padding. Some people online recommend the red felt paper. Most people recommend the standard black asphalt paper. So I went with the asphalt paper and it worked out very well. I have no squeaks and the floors feel very solid.

Not sure if it added any benefit, but for this price, why risk it.

This product (felt paper)comes in a beautiful black roll and was easily carried into the house. When you place it on the floor and give it a little nudge it practically unrolls itself. I got the oak laminate for my son's room. When I looked on the internet the oak and the cherry wood looked about what-and-what. But when I got my product I wished I would have gotten the lighter cherry wood.

The product was a very positive enhancement to his room. The carpet was ready to be taken out and the laminate was a great choice. It is very easy to clean and maintain.

The only problems I had were:
(1) on the way home, it rained the entire 45 miles, so the wood was warped and still slightly damp by the time we were ready to install.
(2) The warped planks made it very difficult to keep the items locked together. Once we finished one row and started the next, the first row would have gaps due to it being warped. However, we came to that conclusion near the end of the project. We just thought we weren't installing it properly.
(3) Went back to the store and bought another package of laminate and had absolutely NO PROBLEMS with installation - wish we would have thought to do that earlier.
(4) Couldn't figure out how to do the strip that goes at the door. Did it go on the inside of the door, on the outside of the door, or right down the middle. We finally just put it on the outside - mistake. But we're going to do the other side anyway.

I used this as my moisture barrier I did not overlapped because of the thickness, it would leave a crease, so instead I butt it up and used tape to seal the joint, easy to use. Plus if you carefully lay it perpendicular with the walls it will give you guide lines so you can verify each row does not have a curve to it. This can happen if you installing flooring. Also remember this is not replacement for the padding layer to cushion laminate.

Great customer service, when the product was delivered the floor color was different from how it looked on the website. So I then showed a sample of what I got and what I was looking for and the company exchanged it without a problem. The only thing I would note if your installing the floor you self is make sure you get the proper nailing gun because different floor thickness require different size guns/ adjustments plates.

This was a great item to use when installing our laminate floors. Easy to unroll and cut and stayed in place very well! The only thing I didn't like was that the windows were left open one day and shone on the rolls of this, which heated them up and made my house smell of tar for a couple days. Once I realized what it was I shut the curtains and moved the rolls into a different room. No problems from that point on.

Just walked in the the KC store great selection Wow if I can't find what I want here then I am not going to find it. I bought a close out timberline Hardwood 400 Sq Ft $2.69 per Sq Ft Tavern grade rustic look was told 7% to 10% waste.
I had hardly no waste we used the boards with broken tounges or other problems in the closets. I am very pleased we marked all the joists for staples making it a good secure floor there are no squeaks its a great floor great product.

I am building a workshop with a knotty pine ceiling, T111 walls and maple hardwood floors. The hardwood floors are the reject bundles purchased through lumber liguidators. I used it as a barrier between the hardwood and the subfloor. It's easy to cut to size with just a pair of scissors.
I only needed a small amount to do some repairs but they only sell it in 15 Lbs rolls...so I have a lot left...it can also be used for roofing (to put as a barrier under the shingles I believe), so I'm sure I'll use it eventually when we change our roof.

The felt paper was easy to use since it was easy to roll it out and make straight cuts. With soft materials such as a plastic type material sometimes it's too soft to quickly measure and cut it since it tends to move out of place easily. The only bad thing about the felt paper is that the black coating on the paper gets all over the place and gets a little messy. It's a bit greasy so when you're trying to clean it up it tends to smear.

The previous flooring was press and stick vinyl tiles, removing them left a sticky surface. The tar paper easily covered the sticky residue so pet hairs are no longer a problem since it will take me a while to lay all the hardwood. The tar paper is a good base for the oak flooring, it allows the oak to slide but doesn't move itself.
The main problem I had was that the tar smeared the walls, but I was able to clean it off with denatured alcohol.

15#felt is only to be used to ease installation, helps wood slide together easier for nail down installation. also helps deaden noise ie pops and crackles. felt has no moisture barrier capabilities per national organization of flooring manufacturers of america "nofma".

The designated purpose of the product is moisture barrier. This is difficult to prove unless to make an experiment in your own home. So we all have to trust it :) One this that I did find handy about the product is using it as a leveler for minor subflooring flaws. Like I have good deal of deeps (depressions) but using plywood self-leveling compound appears to much. So what I do is just cut pieces of the product of different sizes and my it level. Wooks very nicely. BTW, don't ignore Quiet Walk underlayment - it make such a huge difference.

Next time, I would probably get something thicker. This is not the fault of the product, just my choice. The product is fine, but I would recommend a thicker under-covering.

I have the main floor over garage and basement. Decided to install felt paper regardless for extra insulation. Very easy to lay down and work with. Turned out to be useless in noise reduction so after I finished with my dining room, I got Quiet Walk product, which I love from that perspective but it is a separate story. I am going to use felt over concrete in basement. This is where it is supposed to be the best for. Will also put in on my stairs because I have no idea what is below them.

Tar is sticky, but what ya gonna do? Gotta have it, but since we JUST installed the floor, haven't had time to compare, and we replaced carpet with wood. LOVE the Bellawood!! Nothing to compare to this point, time will tell. So far, so good!

I mean, what's not to like about 15 lb felt paper? Good sound barrier, keeps the moisture at bay (something I don't get to say often), and comes in a convenient (yet heavy) roll. Make sure you wear knee pads or an old pair of jeans, because you'll ruin the knees of your britches otherwise.

I used the felt paper under my hardwood floors. I laid it in the opposite direction of which I laid my flooring. It helps with the noise level throughout the house and was easy to use.

We installed the felt paper and then the bamboo floors ourselves. It took 3 days but they are just beautiful. It was hard work but easier than I thought it would be. Love those lock in place floors. My house looks gorgeous. Thanks.

The Felt paper in used under the hardwood floor as an underlayment. It served it's purpose; ie. reduced noise and protects the wood floor because it's a moisture barrier.

Felt Paper was easy to roll out and cut but did not want to stay flat.

The Bellawood Teak w/5" plank 3/4" thick went down very nice. The felt paper makes a nice sound & moisture barrier.

Love the Bellawood Teak floor.

we didn't use the felt paper, we had to end up using glue. i'm sure it would have worked fine if we had used it. we love the wood, it looks beautiful.

Felt paper is rather simple stuff. When you overlap, keep in mind that surface thickness increases a bit and you may need to tap the flooring into place. Don't panic.
Felt paper is a good idea to control water vapor from below.
That's about it, pretty simple stuff.
OH yeah, it works great with finished pine floor.
