So thankfully I started in a closet. I used the Mapei lightweight adhesive they sold me at LL. I tried to put it on lightly and let it sit for a while -- 30 minutes for the first two rows and almost an hour for the second two rows. By the end I was letting the glue sit for more than an hour before putting down tiles. This really cut down on the sliding and eliminated any glue oozing through the tiles. The biggest problem I had was keeping the tiles from shifting after placing them. I initially tried using a roller (which I rented for 22 bucks a day from [@]), but this only made things worse. the roller moved the tiles and I stopped using it. I just focused on smacking down the tiles in place without moving them. Good luck.

The color of the product I received is darker than the sample in the store which probably had "bleached" over time.

I installed this using Liquid Nail on the advice of the guy at Lumber Liquidators and didn't have any of the problems that some other people mentioned with curling, etc. from the glue.
I put this in my kitchen and the only thing I'd warn about is putting a rug beneath your table and chairs so the cork doesn't get dents in it. Other than that, this is the perfect floor; warm, comfortable, easy to clean, and minimal environmental impact.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
Back in 2006 we used this tile because it was on sale cheap. Since it is finished we stained the "bottom" side of the tile with Bona Drifast stain and then glued it in "upside down" with vinyl floor adhesive on a concrete floor. We then finished it with Bona Traffic. It has held up very well for several years now with our family including a dog and a cat. It looks like a much more expensive floor with the stain and with the high end finish/sealer it has been super durable. We have even had water spilled on it a couple of times and not noticed it overnight and it wiped right up. Now we are building a new house and doing the same thing again.

I love the color and minimal environmental impact. Inexperience plus Bostik adhesive led to uneven surface and messes were difficult to clean. Install was much easier, neater, and easier to manage with Bruce adhesive.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
I had my very experienced handyman install the floor, after we read all of the other comments. Still, when he had done four rows, the edges began to curl. He swore he had let the glue set 25 minutes. [...]This is what really works: - Use a THIN coat of the glue on the tile AND the floor one or two rows at a time. Use a paint brush or small roller and remove any excess glue. - Let the glue dry ON EACH (this is the waiting part) and the way to tell when it is dry is that the glue goes from white to clear, and gets tacky. - Repeat--lots of glue means frustration, wasted tiles, and wasted time. I mean THIN coat of glue is the only way to go. - When both floor and tile(s) are tacky (and the glue is clear) then = Carefully position the long edge of the tile where you want it and place the rest of the tile down. - Contact is instant and there are no do-overs. If your coat of glue was thin enough on each surface and you waited the right amount of time, there will be no curling edges on any tile. You will not need anything to weight the tile down. - If glue oozes up in the cracks between tiles you have used too much glue. Or it wasn't sufficiently dried. - If you have any problems or questions, call the 800 number immediately before you waste a lot of tiles. My handy man didn't want to call, but I had no such qualms and the technician saved the handy man's life. He had wasted nearly a box of tiles already. One other note, when you take the tiles out of the boxes to acclimate them to the climate in your home, spread them out. Otherwise the ones on the bottom of a pile may be thinner (because of the weight) and not look like they match as you install them. Ultimately they all will expand to their original depth. Just one avoidable issue.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
As the other reviewers promised, this was tough to install. We started with too much glue and it seeped up through the cracks, near the end we didn't use enough and I went back with super glue to stick down a few corners. We have a few seams that slid apart while it was drying but hopefully it won't be an issue. I was expecting more color variation between tiles and was kind of looking forward to it but there was practically no variation on color. We installed on top of a very damaged vinyl floor with the recommended MA975 Mapei 5 Gallon Light Weight Adhesive and it worked great. We only used half a 5 gallon bucket for 210 square feet. Drying time was MUCH less than the instructions, 3 hours and you couldn't move anything. At the recommendation of another reviewer I rented a 100 lb laminate roller from [...] for $22 a day, I don't know if we needed to but the tiles are very flat and it seems like it helped. We waited about 30 minutes before we rolled because other wise the glue seeped up through the cracks. START WHERE YOU KNOW THE FURNITURE WILL HIDE YOUR MISTAKES!

We are using this product on the bathroom floor. What I like is that this particular cork product can be used on a surface that isn't level. Anyone that has worked on an OLD house knows what I mean.
Delivery was quick and it arrived in good condition.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
It took me a couple weekends to install this product but it was well worth the time and effort! The floor looks beautiful and is very comfortable underfoot and our dogs love it; the finish is perfect and only requires a damp sponge to clean. The tiles themselves were extremely easy to work with, cut with just a utility knife but the glue was very difficult to work with. The glue I used was Dritac 6200 which has an extremely aggressive tack and a strong smell that lingered for awhile, but once you get used to it was not so bad, although I did lose a pair of flip flops that got stuck in the glue and one of my dogs walked through and got some stuck to his paw which was not fun to get out. I would defnitely recommend this product to others and I got it from LL at a great price!

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
The most important thing is to let the glue set like the instructions tell you to. Don't get in a rush or you will regret it. Get a floor roler too. It will help a lot. Make sure and get WATER not oil polyurithain to cover the floor. Also don't put fans out to dry the floor. It will cause air bubles and also make sure to use a new roller with every coat so it will cut down on the air bubbles and the coat will be more even. I love the finsed outcome. We have it in the kitchen and the bathroom and it looks great.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
Excellent product, Installed over slab concrete ground floor kitchen. I couldn't find the contact adhesive that was specified with the instructions at the local home center. However, I found DAP contact cement to work well. I applied to both the cement and the underside of cork flooring with a fine nap roller. I allowed both sides to dry approx 30 min, then pressed tiles in place. The finish is great, and cork naturally repels water. As a bonus, it is very difficult to tell if the floor is dirty. I only mop now once every two weeks! I am seriously considering covering remaining bottom floor with this product! P.S. I'm a little bummed i can't wear my high heels on this floor (cork will bruise... although it will bounce back after 1/2 hour).

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
easy to cut, install, looks nice when finished. Just be sure to dedicate enough time to install, allow adhesive to dry then put a few coats of poly on to secure the finish of the floor (2-3 days) before moving furniture back in.
We picked up our products in the store, service was very professional, informative and helpful.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
We put this floor in a musician's studio, and it looks, sounds and feels amazing. We laid it down using Franklin 811 adhesive, which took us about 10 hours for 300 sq. ft. (It takes awhile to spread the glue and cut to size.) I strongly recommend renting a linoleum roller. It's cheap and makes a huge difference. The instructions inside the package give you all the pertinent details for installation. The cork's cushioned and soft and has flecks of incredible color in it. It looks great under even florescent light. I'm sure we didn't do a perfect job, but for first-timers, we love the results. And what a price! Thanks.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
Did my kitchen 10 years ago, finished with 4 coats of clear, egshell polyurethane (no VOC). Have had to recoat the polyurethane about once every 4 years due to kitchen traffic. Cork still looks like new. M-in-L dropped a burning napkin on the floor once and it blistered where burned. shaved off the blister with a very sharp knife, sanded lightly and recoated. You can't see the repair. Did my office 2 years ago, and love it. Can't imagine why people get raising edges. I have had no problem.

We had to put slate down instead after this cork kept coming up. We followed every instruction and tip with terrible results; finished entire floor only to have to replace it with slate. Would never recommend this product.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
I really love the almost-seamless look of this floor. We put it in the living area and plan to put it in the master bedroom and kitchen at a later date. I only recommend that you read the glue instructions and remember to let the glue set for about 20 minutes before putting the tiles down; we did not remember and the glue came through at some sections.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
My parents had a cork floor in a custom-built home built in 1964. I was ecstatic to see this available at such a reasonable price.
Dry-Tac 6200 is the way to go. I installed the cork on a grade-level finishd concrete surface (against the manufacturers directions; however, at this cost..worth the risk.). On concrete, at least, use only a 3/32 or lower saw-tooth trowel or you will get too much mastic down.
My only mistake, I believe, was in not waiting long enough for the Dri-Tac to turn fully clear as recommended. The reason I did not do this is that once you lay the tile, you cannot move it and I did not want any seams. So, I applied the tile with the mastic wet in order to slide it into tight position. This resulted in the following issues: 1) some very slight raised seams; and 2) adhesive that rose through some seams and dried.
Note: Professionals will add the adhesive to the entire room and then lay the tile. If you are doing it yourself, work with your spouse or someone and take your time on the first few pieces to get a handle on drying time, application techniques, etc. None of the above problems is a big deal for me, however, since I totally refinished my parents family room (900 sq.ft.) for less than $200 (e.g. rented 3-disk random orbital sand--awesome--; and 2 gallons water-based urethane)in a total of 6 h spread over three days.
I now have a beautiful, warm, eco-friendly floor reminiscint of my childhood home.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
[...] I installed with the raw cork up and the smooth side down. This required me to finish the floor. It cost about [$] to finish the floor with quality no-voc natural polyurethane. Later I deduced that the smooth side was intended to be up as the manufacture website called it "pre-finished". Installed that way, it only cost a little to finish. However, the final result of smooth-side-down was so much better. laid nicer, seams even, no shrinkage...already survived a deluge of water (plumbing leak) and cleaned right up. Installed smooth-side-up and the other comments of sloppy seams and edges trying to feather up come to mind. The roller edges can dig in so both floors already have a little "character"--be careful with that. At this price, go for the finish-yourself. I used it in entire apartment this way--top to bottom and the whole job came out awesome. I did a small room in another apartment with smooth up and I am not very happy--lesson learned. Buy this, make sure your floor is flat and smooth (luaun sheets, in my case) and put out for a good poly. Oh yeah--be patient with the glue and let it tack, use a fine tooth pattern trowel, and definitely let the cork aclimate to the room per directions.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
We installed this floor in Oct. 2006 in the kitchen, greatroom, and one bathroom of our ski condo. It has held up exceptionally well, except for where the western sun has bleached one area. We rent this condo, and the cork has been excellent because melting snow (from boots) doesn't bother it. In fact, it looks better now than when we installed it two years ago. There is, however, one scratch that I haven't tried to remove, where someone rolled a heavy object through some fireplace ash. The cork is lightweight, insulates well, and does not freeze your feet when the weather is cold. Installation was a mess, and the seams are not so great in some places. Still, I would recommend the product, but hire an experienced installer. If we did not have concerns about snow-melt, and general abuse, the snap-together cork might have been a better choice. I will probably buy more for the bathrooms.

This floor is comfortable to walk on and easy to clean. It looks good and gives a sense of spaciousness to the room.
The biggest issue for me is the thinness of the product is PERFECT for my radiant heat floor. It allow the heat to come through and still gives a wonderful finish to the room.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
I put this in my basement onto existing hard vinyl tile. Installs VERY easily (cut with razor knife), glues down easily. However, cork expands as it gets wet with glue, and the edges and corners tend to try to turn up. Guess I should have spaced the tiles a very small amount to try to get them to expand to each other. Did not rent a heavy roller as was suggested by some, I used a kitchen rolling pin to moderate success. Looks OK, good enough for basement along ext door and sink/laundry area. Still more attractive than sheet or tile vinyl even with slight warping of edges, just due to natural feel & warmth of cork. Would use cork floating floor for an area where finish quality is more important.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
I installed this glue down cork in my kitchen 2-8-08. It worked fine. The other reviewer complained that it curled up at edges. This could have been due to the glue being too wet. I do NOT recommend Bostick. Use DriTack or Roberts 3300. I have had a different brand of glue down cork in the bathroom for about 14 months and it has held up fine. I like the size of this tile in the kitchen because there are even fewer seams to contend with.

Comments about Lisbon Cork Sunset Cork Tile:
Installed this floor yesterday. Today I am going to buy a floating floor to put on top. The seams curled, it just looks shoddy.
The finish IS beautiful, but aside from being terribly messy (with the glue down installation) -it looks "DIY". This wasn't my first floor installation, and I have never had an install that looks as poor as this... So sad too.
Bottom line - SAVE yourself money - and go with the click together floating floor.
