I bought this odd lot of solid koa to rebuild old exterior door thresholds and interior transition pieces. This is in preparation for the koa engineered floor we are preparing to install. The wood was excellent to work with. It milled easily with no chatter or splintering yet seems to be pretty hard. It made me want to build some furniture out of it.

I live in an old victorian rowhouse and thought the the Brazilian Koa flooring blended traditional with modern, which was the look I was going for. And for 3/4" thick by 3 1/4" the price couldn't be beat. There was enough to do the whole house even closets, HVAC etc. (steps are the original 120 year old heart of pine but stained to match). Because I didn't have much waste, through some crafty manipulation of my contractor ended up using in the powder room and kitchen which I hadn't originally intended. My contractor did have a touch time installing but the finished product turned out well.

We were originally going to use bamboo in our home but then we fell in love with the Brazillian Koa wood. Off the rack it was way to expensive for our budget, but the odd lot made it possible for us. Ours came unfinished, so we'll finish it using an eco-friendly oil as opposed to a poly finish. It looks amazing! Wonderful color variations and patterns.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of the warped and damaged boards in the lot. It forced us to purchase about a 20% overage and created more time in the installation process. That being said, we expected this and were up for the challenge.

I'm a first-time hardwood installer and was able to install like a pro! Be sure to use a pneumatic hardwood nailer, since the wood is so hard...and I would recommend cleats over staples. The color variation is amazing! It looks like something out of a magazine. If I ever sell this home, I will definitely be buying this floor again for a future home.
