Comments about Sch??n Quick Clic Engineered 7/16 X 4 NATURAL MAPLE:

I love the way my floor looks. I did not get the contrast in colors as pictured. The light and dark boards have less significant contrast.

The floor installed pretty easily. It was my first wood floor install and it went smoothly. I did not have any help.

I did notice some of the boards had imperfections highlighted in a yellow tint. I assume these boards were not supposed to make it into the box, however, it screwed up my waste calculations. I lived too far away to drive for one board so I had to use the imperfect boards in inconspicuous places and finagle some boards to make it work.

I will be buying this same floor for my next house. I love maple floors. They are soft but I can deal with it.

I installed about 300 square foot of the Schon Quic Click Maple in my bedroom and closet. At first, I heeded the only installation directions I could find for this product on the web (directions were NOT included in box)and tried to assemble the planks together without a tapping block. 8 rows of "gappy" installation later, I gave up and resorted to hammering with a tapping block. What a world of difference. If you tap hard enough (and if you're willing to top-nail every other plank or so), you can overcome the inevitable imperfections in the wood and the less than ideal design of this particular tongue and groove system and get the planks to actually stick/fit together and the seams to run straight. The last 30 rows of my floor look immaculate (no gaps at the joints)--beautiful color/finish. I'm going to have to go back and fill the gaps between the first 8 rows with thin (1/32" -1/16") strips of basswood. This was not the easiest system to assemble, but the results (if you know the tricks) can be beautiful.

The most important step to laying any floating floors is making it square to the room and the first lines straight as an arrow. This was my first time. Really easy to do once you get started and get the hang of it. I enjoyed installing these floors with ease and would get excited everytime I pulled out a piece that had an interesting wood grain look to it. Those pieces were saved for the most travelled parts of the floors because I didn't want to hide them. The trick to installing these which was kind of confusing in the instructions is that you lay the whole length of the room pushing them together but not all the ways together, when that happens its not flat to the floor yet. Then tap them together from the starting point to the opposite end. As your tapping them you push down on the floor, then they click together. The only 3 downsides to the Schon Quik-clik is there wasn't enough dark pieces compared to the picture example they show you and I have 2 Dobermans. They aren't very resistant to those reindeer-like legs and paws. Be sure to check my images for further viewing. I had to put down some rugs to keep the floors from getting to scratched.
