Very Pleased with the outcome
By HogWildVerified Reviewer from Central Arkansas on 11/3/2008
Pros:
High Quality
Cons:
Expensive

I installed just over 800 sq ft of this in our living, dining, and entry areas. Fantastic looking product; lots of color and grain variations. Quality is great. I may have had two bad boards out of 30+ boxes. Gluing can get a little messy, and it is hard on the knees and back; but other than that it was a good experience.

WE LOVE HOW OUR FLOOR LOOKS. BUT, SINCE IT HAS BEEN INSTALLED FOR ONLY A WEEK, WE DON'T REALLY KNOW YET HOW DURABLE IT IS, HOW THE FINISH WILL HOLD UP, IS IT PRONE TO WARPING, ETC.

BECAUSE THIS FLOORING WAS ONLY 3/8" THICK WE DECIDED IT WOULD DO WELL IN OUR UPSTAIRS BEDROOMS AND HALL. IT WOULD PROBABLY BE OK IN A LIVING,DINING, FAMILY ROOM AREA. BUT, WE ALREADY HAVE HARDWOOD FLOORS THERE THAT WE PUT IN A FEW YEARS AGO.

WE HAD THE FLOORING INSTALLED BY A PROFESSIONAL. HE SEEMED TO THINK IT WAS NOT A DIFFICULT INSTALLATION.

Great Floor!

We decided to redo our lower level family room in hopes of giving it a lighter look. I installed this by myself, with my wife's commentary as I went along:)

As a realtor, I recognize that hardwood floor brings great resale value to a home. This being one of the deciding factors, we decided on Schoen Engineered Golden Teak flooring as this installation is on cement. A little warning, the glue residue is not easy to remove even after using the recommended product, but we finally conquered the residue and love the outcome.

We couldn't be happier. It's easy to clean, more hygienic especially for anyone with allergies and it looks like a different room!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Value for the Price

I think it is a great value for the price. The floor has only been in for a few weeks so it would be difficult to rate the wear or scratch factor. I sure hope over time that the flooring does resist scraching and wear. The flooring is in a very high traffic area so it will be put to the test over time. It is beautiful now and I am very satisfied. It is so easy to clean.

We had a professional installer and there were not any problems with the installation.

We installed this over concrete using Bostick glue.
We put his floor down in the family room and two bedrooms. It was a physical challenge at age 62 for me to be on my knees so much, especially having to spread the glue.

I had to pace myself. I would do one room and then take a week off, then continue to the next room and so on.

We are very pleased so far.

High-class look at a great value!

As experienced do-it-yourself-ers we found this floor very easy to install. We installed over concrete and applied the epoxy-type sealer. Also, it is important to allow the glue to "tack-up" before laying the boards. The Schon website has very helpful installation instructions. The variable lengths made executing a random layout quick and easy. This limited the cutting to only end pieces and doorways. The diversity of the wood tone is beautiful, ranging from light-golden to an almost rich cherry on a few boards. The glossy sheen of solid hardwood. The glueing process can be messy, but the look is well worth the effort.

Great Floor

I have a 750 Square foot apartment in a highrise apartment building in Manhatten. I ripped out the old parquet floor myself and wanted to put down a new floor over the concrete. Myself along with 3 of my friends were able to lay the floor from prep to finish in the entire apartment over a weekend and a half. I was nervous of how it would stand up to the differnt changes in season, but it has since been a year and it has always looked amazing. Oh please note that the flooring changes color getting darker and richer (espically noticiable if this is an area of heavy sunlight), you will notice this if you have an area rug over the floor and pull it up a several weeks after installtion. I would reccomend this to anyone.
