Comments about Timber Top 1/2" x 5" Brazilian Koa Engineered Flooring:
I used the Koa flooring for a ceiling in what we call the "sun room". Its a former porch with lots of weird angles that resulted in lots of white space. The Koa gives the room warmth and a serious dose of character versus the large amount of white volume. I think it would also do well as a high end wall paneling. I used the 5 inch width because I thought it would be less busy. The planks come in 72,48,36,30,24,and 18 inch lengths. The wood patterns are all over the place from tiger stripe end grain to fairly plain, and dark to light. I decided to sort the boards for similar types rather than have a random checker board affect that I have seen on some other projects. I was reasonably successful with this but could have done better with a little more patience. I definitely think this was the way to go. One package was damaged which affected three or four of the boards. I cut these and used them for end pieces so it wasn't a big problem. Due to the assortment of lengths there was very little waste. I used the 18 inch pieces to fill in (via ripping on a table saw) the last short row that was not square. This is a good way to handle that problem. Long boards would make this more obvious.I used an $18 brad gun (with 1 3/16" 18 awg brads) that I bought at Harbor Freight and one of those small compressors that I bought on [...] for another purpose. I had to temporarily remove the safety tip and tie wrap it to the enabled position so I could get the tip tight against the groove. No one else should be in the room with this modification as I fired some wild shots as a result. I did give the cat a good scare.I tried not to put the boards extra tight as it is winter with low humidity. In the summer the wood (even engineered wood) will swell and it needs a place to go. The instructions said to leave 1/2 inch all around but that is ridiculous. If the wood swells that much the whole thing would explode since the boards are all nailed. I used 1/8 inch end space and this is plenty. The first and last rows were glued. I tacked small pieces of wood to hold them in place until the construction adhesive dried. This is only a problem on a ceiling.
The finished job

We hired an installer and now have a stunning large livingroom floor that pulls people into our house. It is the first thing everyone notices and comments on.

Floor is gorgeous, but seems to scratch easily. Scratches if not deep cover with Old English. Also, fading occured quickly when rug was put over floor about a week after installing. Now have pulled up carpet to let floor catch up - see attached pictures.Christie Lumb [@] Also, what is 15yr. warranty for?

We had our handyman install this floor with a glue-down process. The whole thing went very quickly and there was very little waste. The color of this wood is kind of a reddish color and the markings are dark brown - a very unique and expensive looking finish, espeically for the price.

This product bring warmth and color variation that ties the whole area together VS a bland consistent color you see on a lot of floors. It works well with our cherry wood cabinets and granite bar.
