This is the prettiest floor you can buy and is one of the hardest to install.
Every hole had to be pre drill or it would spilt but despite its difficulties
it was well worth it.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 5" Select Bloodwood:

Overall a very good quality product but about 5-10% of the boards are milled 1/16" or so narrower than the standard 5" face. It was helpful to cull these narrower boards, but some initial long runs trapped narrower boards and left unwanted gaps.Get ready to spend lots of time on your knees. Predrilling and hand nailing the tongue was the only way we found to successfully secure this very hard wood without spliting. (3/32" drill bit with holes at 45 degree angle, every 5-6", securing with 6d 2" finishing nails into 3/4" plywood subfloor and then coutersinking). When we started out nailing every 10 to 12" there was quite a bit of popping with heavier people walking around. The [...] website mentions nailing the wider exotics more frequently but didn't pick up on this at first. Investing in high quality blades for the miter and table saw was well worth it to get clean cuts.Finish on the bloodwood is amazing. We let the kids hammer on a scrap piece and not a dent. Also took a sharp awl to a scrap and had to exert quite a bit of pressure to make minor marks on the surface. Our living room and dining room run together and look out to a Japanese Maple garden and greenbelt beyond. The color and texture of the bloodwood is stunning, running up to the natural colors outside.

I have installed several hardwood floors in many different species and finishes. However this is the most beautiful wood I have ever used. I purchased several lots of seconds during a clearance sale at my local store. The savings alone made the floor a good value....That was until the floor went down...I am without words. It changed the entire look of my home. I had the luxury of picking & choosing the boards to use and found some wonderful pieces. Well worth the little extra work.

The Bloodwood is a unique flooring. The red color is not a stain, it is the actual color of the wood! This floor is a dramatic statement in your home and is not for all decors, but it is beautiful and exotic. A great choice for a dark library or den.
