                  • Q:

I have a Brazilian Walnut stair nose that came with a groove. I need a piece that has a tongue. I've looked around the Lumber Liquiators site here and only found the groove option. So, reading other questions, I saw someone had kind of the same issue and was going to use a "spline". By taking a piece of wood and placing in the groove and have it extend out making the tongue that I need. Is that the only option I have (using a spline)? Thanks for the help.

                  • Q:

Do you have an exact mechanical drawing of this brazilian walnut bullnose? One of the reviews said that this was not 3/4", so they had to cut off the groove to get it to fit.

I'll be installing this on stairs and landing with 3/4" that I purchased previously. If this is not 3/4", then I need to somehow build up one side so the tougue & grooves line up.

Is this the only Brazilian walnut bullnose stair profile intended to marry-up with your 3/4" brazilian walnut t&g product?

Is it possible to use this over an existing stair tread? Tread depth is about 11 inches. How do you nail boards - Is there enough room for floor nailer?

                  • Q:

I've been installing my 5" Brazilian Walnut on the diagonal and it looks beautiful. I need to install a stair nose for a step down to another room. Since I am not able to route a tongue on my diagonal cuts (there is too much splintering and blowout), I must route a grove and then transition to the stair nose with a spline. What adhesive do I use to install the spline? Must I face nail the stair nose or can I use an adhesive under that piece?

The nose will span 4 feet and will be face nailed at the ends which will be hidden by trim and shoe molding. Face nailing has had to be pre-drill only as there is too much opportunity for damage no matter which nailer or tip guard I use.
Thank you so much for the help!

I would recommend both a flexible construction adhesive and about 8 well placed ring shanked finish nails.
