Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x 25" x12 lft American Cherry Butcher Block:

    I made a desk and the top for a "rack-mount" in a recording studio. The size option was limited. I needed about 30" for desk top so I got 1, 12' X 25" X 1 1/2" Cherry BB and 2, 8' X 4 X .75" splashes. I combined these to get a 6' X 29" X 1 1/2" desk top and a 44" X 25" X 1 1/2" rackmount top

Delivery was as expected. Product was beautiful and easy to work with.

We redid our kitchen counters/bar top with this product and they turned out beautifully. We had to do a long seam down the middle to make the counter/bar wide enough and I have a hard time seeing the seam unless I'm looking for it. We use Howard's Butcher Block conditioner and it brings out a beautiful color in

I bought a 12' long counter, cut it in half and rejoined to make an island top 50"x72". Edges were true enough to just glue and screw, did not need a joiner. Very happy with finished product.

I bought two of the 12' sections of the cherry counter top. One was in stock and the next one came the following week. The counter top was pretty easy to work with. One side of the counter top is useable, the other side had larger gaps etc. but that was not an issue. All the edges on my pieces were nice and square. There were a couple dings on the pieces from strapping I am guessing but it was very minor and I was able to hide that beneath the tile backsplash.

There are plenty of fill marks on the product but generally they are very small. I noticed them a lot at first but now I never think twice about them.

The pictures I posted were of the product after one week of daily oiling. At first the two sections were different shades but they have blended nicely.

Overall I am very happy with the product. I bought it to spruce up the kitchen before we sell our home. I will be buying it for my next home as well!

I bought the 12 foot butcher block and had it cut into a countertop and a mantel piece for a new gas fireplace. I still have a narrow 5 foot section left and may use it for some kind of table. I decided to stain the pieces and apply polyurethane to match a laminate floor I had purchased for a newly finished basement. I'm not quite done with the poly but it is looking beautiful. Except for the weight and awkwardness of getting it to my house, I found the butcher block easy to work with and mostly ready for finishing on one side. I did need to sand it lightly and add some putty to a few cracks.

Was out of stock and took about three weeks for delivery, so plan ahead! Product itself was excellent, after oiling the colors really came out. Consider using Waterlox instead of mineral oil for long term water damage minimization (especially around the sink rim). tip: Use the scrap from the sink cut out as a cutting block & use the Danish/mineral oil finish only on this piece for actual food prep.

                            A:

Our butcher blocks use PVA food safe glue in the manufacture process, (no added formaldehyde adhesive).
Remember, there is "naturally " trace formaldehyde in all wood products, so we cannot say the block is formaldehyde free.

I love the look of the American Cherry Butcher block. However I do know American Cherry wood floors are a softer wood and not recommended for high traffic areas. I would like to use these for all of my countertops. Should I look into a harder Butcher block counter. If so which is most durable?

I have heard that you should put a sealant on the "down=side" of your countertops, particularly where the counter meets the top of the dishwasher, to prevent moisture penetration. Is this true, and if so, what would you seal it with?

Two sections can be joined together.
                            1) For a good glue edge bond; using a straight edge guide and saw recut 1/2"or so off one side of each piece you are joining.
                            2) For center support and strength; Use a biscuit jointer or doweling jig, then wood glue the edges and bar-clamp til dry, re-sand. Add proper support to the completed counter to help support the seam joint.
Whether it will be detectable or not depends on the craftsmanship of the installer.

If you want to stain the wood prior to oiling it, use a water-based stain as oil-based dyes will clog-up the wood's pores, thus stopping the oil finish from soaking in effectively.
