Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x 25" x 8 lft American Cherry Butcher Block:

Bought this product 7 years ago, ordered 68 running feet of product. All came in perfect condition requires little sanding. Oiled three time prior to use and now after 7 years oil 4 times a year. Just had some guests come over and saw countertops for the first time and their jaw dropped on how great the tops looked. DO NOT USE COUNTERTOPS AS A CUTTING BOARD. The counters are easy to clean only drawback tin cans will leave a black ring on wood very quickly. Learned to live with that and take precautions. These countertops get a lot of use, I cookaand bake a lot

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x 25" x 8 lft American Cherry Butcher Block:

The butcher block is beautiful. The construction however was less than expected. I thought it would be useful on either side. But on one side the joints were not joined together and there were huge gaps all over the entire 8 foot piece of butcher block. The other side had the gaps patched with an unknown substance. But once installed and oiled you can't tell.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x 25" x 8 lft American Cherry Butcher Block:

I purchased an 8' and a 12' Cherry Butcher block counter top from Lumber Liquidators for my kitchen remodel. I went to the local store one Sunday morning to place an order for the two items and was surprised to find that they were both in stock. Bought them, loaded them in the truck and went home within 30 minutes.

Both coutner tops were in excellent condition. The 12' top had a minor dent from shipping on the front side which I was aware of when purchasing. It is wood after all and I will either get the dent removed or live with it. Other than that both pieces were square and true in every dimension. I was actually surprised how true they were. The tops were quite smooth with some filler in some of the joints but really not very much.

I am going to stain these counter tops and apply a polyurethane finish. I did a bunch of research and thought long and hard about what I want from these counter tops. My decision was that I want more of a "regular" counter top which is water proof and impervious than a traditional "butcher block" counter top. Note that I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry and have absolutely no issue with food getting onto a fully cured polyurethane surface although I do not really plan to put my food directly onto the counter tops. Also, you can probably keep the polyurethane surface cleaner than oiled wood so the chances of a bacterial contamination are reduced. I refinished the oak floors in my house last year with polyurethane and the stuff is tough as nails. It gets walked on and looks great so I do not see any issues with having it on a counter top as long as you do not cut directly on it.

The back sides of both counters are very much like the fronts but without the voids filled. I have a corner to make using the 8' counter and would had had to flip one part to do that. It would have been very practical to do that but I decided to go with a butt joint.

I have been practicing my staining and polyurethane finising on the back of the pieces. Like I said, the only difference between the top and back is that the void are not filed as well so the back is great for practicing.

If you like wood, these are some pretty impressive pieces of wood.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x 25" x 8 lft American Cherry Butcher Block:

If you're using this as a counter top you will need to fill in some of the seams before finishing. I'm using this as a desk top, so I just sanded and finished it. It looks good.

I also had to sand down the bottom because it was covered in chunks of glue. That was a bit of a pain.

Replaced formica countertop next to stove to provide an accent and more functional food preparation area. Will take advice of LL employee to use remnants to make cutting boards out of the material.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x 25" x 8 lft American Cherry Butcher Block:

We ordered an 8ft and 12ft cherry butcher block from lumber liquidators and we are in love with our new kitchen countertops. I was very wary when initially purchasing them but they couldn't have turned out any better! I was initially going to order them from another retailer but they were not available in my area and now I am glad they weren't. I think the quality of lumber liquidators' Williamsburg butcher block is way better than the other retailer and the price was still great. You get what you pay for and given how much we use our kitchen, I wouldn't of done it any differently. On the con side, I did notice a couple areas where there were small gaps/spaces, but they were minimal and only on one side of the piece of butcher block.
Also for those who are taking the dive into butcher block countertops and you are doing research on sealing/staining vs. mineral oil- if you decide to go the route of sealing/staining- look into Rubio Monocoat 2c. Great product, NO VOC's, food safe and is a sealant and stain all in one. It only takes one coat (opposed to poly) and the dry and cure time is phenomenal!!

I used these counter tops for use in a beach area home. They look good, and are rugged. I used a poly coat on them and will add a few more to build it up to a nice top coat. For the cost I also feel it is a bargain assuming you like a wood counter top.

This piece was not cut straight, making all of our cuts to place this as a countertop very difficult. While the top looks fine, the bottom had a whole section of black and red glue that needed to be heavily sanded off. There were a few places where the individual piece of butcher block was not flush at all with the rest of the piece.

Compared to the 12' one I purchased, the top just didn't seem as even or smooth.

Overall these look nice, but the shotty construction made cuts harder and extra sanding was required.

Unfortunately the thickest butcher block that we carry is 1 1/2" thick.
I would recommend hiring a skilled carpenter for your application (may need bracing depending on the overhang dimension).

How do I clean this product? We recently installed it and I'm not sure what the best way to clean it is. Thanks!

Williamsburg Butcher Blocks are sold unfinished. How you finish the countertop will determine how to clean. Hi. I have just ordered 3x8-foot american cherry butcher block counter tops. One will be cut in two and used for an Island, the others counter tops. My installer and I are not familiar with the install process, or the top finish treatment. I hope to eventually use a poly, or marine varnish for the top. Could you kindly send some instructions?
                        Thanks-
                        Larre
