Virginia Mill Works Co.- 3/4" x 4-3/4" Golden Teak Acacia Prefinished Handscraped Solid Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

As seen on... Extreme Makeover, Home Edition!

Colonial American homes were built with wooden floors that were sawn using basic hand-held tools. The hand-crafted workmanship that went into those floors can be found in Virginia Millworks handscraped floors.

About Handscraped Flooring:
Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.
Please note this product is a nominal 3/4" thick, but due to its scraping process the thickness may be as thin as 5/8" in the scraped areas.

About Golden Teak:
Golden Teak is an outstanding flooring choice for any home owner!
The coloring of this strong wood adds inviting warmth to any space. The understated elegance of Golden Teak's creamy golden sapwood and unique dark-streaked heartwood is breathtaking.
Over time this flooring will deepen in color usually settling into a warm golden tan that maintains its cozy appearance.

Don't forget the molding and stair treads!

We installed this beautiful flooring in three of our bedrooms and the second floor hallway. The texture is gorgeous. We love walking on the floor barefoot. The best part is the colour of the floor and its durability (one of the hardest out there).

We love our flooring from LL. They were professional, courteous, and easy to work with. Some of the boards are shorter, but its the nature of this species, and the wider planks. The pics online make it always look more red. but the color is really a beautiful rich mahogany color, with some variation.

Had this product install three years ago and no problem with it whatsoever, so install it again this time in one of the bedroom. I like the curve texture in the wood and dark color, easy to clean the thickness of the wood made it very durable. Like stated before did not find anything bad about this product

It's a beautiful floor. Installed by Lumber Liquidators installers, thru Home Service Store (HSS). Process was easy - installers handled delivery, moving of appliances in kitchen, and demolition (removal of carpet, linoleum and substandard fiberboard, the later replaced with pressed board plywood). One slight negative to me was the number of short boards (many only about a foot long) but the installers didn't seem to mind and the floor still looks great.

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/4" x 4-3/4" Golden Teak Handscraped:

15 easy step to laying a wood floor over concrete....

assuming real Wood and not an engineered floor (which more then likely is a lot easier to install)

              I used: http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/c/Golden-Teak-Acacia-Handscraped-Virginia-Mill-Works-VMGT5/10006652
Note: besides the look, this wood has a small micro bevel on all 4 sides, which will help hide any error you may make

              1) read and ask questions, learn as much as you can about laying wood floors
              2) Purchase wood and have delivered to your home.
              3) Have wood sit in house for about 1 week (not Garage), but in the house. It must "react" to the normal house environment.
              4) remove furniture
              5) remove Rug
              6) remove tack board around parameter of room that held rug down
              7) OPTIONAL: Remove baseboard; sand lightly, and Paint in the Garage. Store for now
              8) OPTIONAL: Paint Room (best do it now before new floor is down)
              9) Lay down Moister Barrier (http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/c/mil-Poly-Sheeting-sft-per-roll-Dream-Home-POL/10008736)
              10) Lay down Elastilon (http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/c/Self-Adhesive-Underlayment-Elastilon-ELASTILON107/10002503)
              11) Begin laying down wood flooring..... usually best in the long direction of the room (the first few rows are the most critical, and the most difficult. Remember you must leave a Gap between wood and wall for expansion. They have to be laid straight and stay straight. I found sometimes the moister barrier, because it is plastic, will allow the wood to "move". You have to ensure the first few rows remain straight (true to the wall). Once you have 4-5 rows down, there is usually enough weight (in wood) to ensure nothing moves. I found 99% of the Virginia Mills wood to be perfect in size (width). All pieces must fit exact, no gaps. If you find a rare piece that off, even by a 1/16 of an inch, put it aside. Use it for one of the pieces that you may have to cut. Any tiny spaces can case small gaps the rest of the way across the room. All joints must be offsets no two parallel boards should have joints within 6". ALWAYS REMEMBER: Measure twice, cut Once!!!
              12) Re-install Trim, caulk where needed
              13) install any shoe moldings or threshold you may need if an height difference exist between roomed just completed and adjoining rooms
              14) Return Furniture... make sure to have pads on all feet, you don't want to scratch your new floor
              15) sit back and relax... admire your work

Other notes: The Golden Teak that I used is extremely hard. and can handle a lot of abuse.... I can not tell you some of the heavy stuff I dropped on the floor without making a mark. If you do get any minor scratches, I would with this wood, brow shoe polish (Paste) matches perfectly. And remember this style of wood is hand scraped.... so it just adds to the "beauty" of the wood.

Because of the hardest of this wood.... do not attempt without proper tools. Most basic would be a 10" miter saw. If any pieces have to be RIPed, you will need a table saw (or at least a friend with one.

Between my house and my some, I have laid 9 floors. Each time I lean a little more. I lot of work, but a lot of enjoyment when completed. If you feel you are not handy, deffiently go for a floating engineered floor where the pieces lock together

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/4" x 4-3/4" Golden Teak Handscraped:

We chose the hand scraped Golden Teak hardwood flooring because of the color variation. We had stair rail and built in cabinets. It ties in all the other woods in the room nicely. We were not told that this product has many short boards, some just a foot long. This makes installation more time consuming. We had a professional do the work. It would have gone more smoothly if the boards were longer in length.

Yes. However, because it's hand-scraped, an abrading sander is required rather than a standard floor sander.

I see on all these reviews that most of the Golden Teak hand scraped Acacia everyone is complaining about "short boards". Is this a LL defect, or a general trait to this wood species to have shorter boards? I have order 800 square feet, and am very nervous.. Would love someones input on this issue. Would also love to see some other pictures of people hand scraped acacia installs. All pictures online look so red, but not so much in person. PLEASE SEND ME PICTURES AND ADVICE :)

                      A:

This is not a defect. The tree is very small and that’s why the boards do not exceed 4’ in length. But because of that the customer gains the advantage to glue a ¾” product to an on grade or above concrete slab. We recommend going to your local lumber liquidators store and they can provide free samples of this product. Thank you for your inquiry

I have completed 6 rooms and a large hallway in this product (3/4" x 4-3/4" Golden Teak Handscraped by Virginia Millworks). Now time to complete by finishing my staircase. What would you recommend.

                    Details

22 steps (Treads) in total. 15 are 4 feet wide and 7 are 38 inches wide (two stair cases meet up halfway to platform to form one stair case the rest of the way. that's way two different widths). I can finish this platform in standard Golden Teak Flooring with two Stair nose

Each tread is 1.5" thick with an over hang of 1" beyond riser.

Each Riser is 6.5" high. With 8 being 38" across, and 17 at 48" across.

What would you recommend to match my Golden Teak flooring

                      A:

You can use stair nose and this flooring on the entire staircase. We have no matching treads and risers.

Clear the stairs of all debris. If your stair treads overlap the riser, cut that overlap off even with your riser.  Glue and nail nosing; pre-drill nail holes and countersink finish nails over stair stringers.   Then install flooring up to your riser. Flooring can be used as your riser up to the next step/tread. Repeat steps and always work from the bottom stair up.

Hi, I've had this flooring for about 2 years now and would like to remove the stain and re-stain it a lighter color. How do I go about doing this? I would like to do the work vs. hiring a professional. Thank you.

Question concerning repair on my Golden Teak hand scraped floors? How do you get deep scratches and gouges out of floor from stuff scratching the floor? What can I do to repair my floor since it is not same color throughout the floor?

                      A:

Wood floors like furniture will scratch and dent if not properly protected. It is recommended to use furniture pads (included in our cleaning kit) under the furniture legs. Pet nails should be kept trimmed and sharp objects (including high heels) kept away from the floor. Often scratches can be adequately repaired using liquid scratch covers. Dents and nicks can be filled using wood floor repair kits available at your local home store. If your floor is severely damaged please consult a professional about refinishing, an individual board replacement may be all that’s needed.
