Flooring 101The Floor Finder
We had gone to several stores looking at hardwood flooring but no one except Lumber Liquidators sold Tobacco Road Acacia. which we fell in love with. We especially liked Lumber Liquidators showroom display as you actually have different hardwood floors installed in your showroom so we were able to get a very good idea how the floor would look in our home. All the other stores have just a small piece of the floor on a wall. We purchased TOBACCO ROAD ACACIA hardwood flooring for our master bedroom. We previously had berber carpeting and with a dog, it was very difficult to keep the carpet clean. We installed the hardwood flooring ourselves in one day and are thrilled with the results. We came back and ordered the floor vents and our bedroom is gorgeous and much healthier without that carpet. Attached is a before and after picture. We would highly recommend Lumber Liquidators to anyone. You had the best selection and the best prices!

We had this installed in our family room/living room and hallway. It is absolutely beautiful! Pictures don't do it justice. We are buying more to do our stairs. This is was first experience with Lumber Liquidators and it was seamless and exactly as stated every step of the way. We would like to praise Nataniel from the Waterford store, she really knows the product! Great experience all the way around.

Comments about Casa de Colour 3/4" x 3-5/8" Tobacco Road Acacia:

We were nervous to put this wood through the whole house- since it's a pretty busy pattern. But we absolutely love it. It's beautiful. We haven't moved in yet so I can't speak to its durability. Our friend who helped us get the installation started was impressed that there were very little that we had to throw out from each box.

Also, we were very pleased with the price at LL. That made our decision easy.

This was my first attempt at doing anything like this. Getting the first row down straight is critical, but once that is done it goes pretty quick and easy. Makes a gorgeous floor!

We put in it our dining room despite family and friends saying it wouldn't look right. It looks great! They are changing their minds when they see it. Acacia varies greatly in color so it matches many other types and colors of wood.

                        Cleaning and Maintenance

We can only recommend our Bellawood Floor Cleaner, or cleaners that are safe for water based urethane finishes. Never use any polish, wax, oil soaps or cleaners that add shine to the floor. In addition, we do not recommend using steamers or wet-jet cleaning systems for hardwood because spraying can collect moisture in between board edges. The use of these products is at your own risk.
                        Thank you for your inquiry.

                    • Q:

Can you tell me in detail about the finish of this product? I have read a previous response that states that there are 7 layers of finish. I am most interested in the aluminum component of the finish, and whether it is underneath the polyurethane coating, or if it is mixed throughout the polyurethane. I have small children that are chemically sensitive, and I need to know that the aluminum is not going to absorb through their skin. I am ok with polyurethane.

                        A:

Based on the manufacturing specifications: this product contains aluminum oxide in underlying layers only. The top coat does not contain any aluminum oxide. Aluminum oxide is chemically bound in the cured finish.

                        A:

Yes, as per NWFA Installation Guidelines:
National Wood Flooring Association ©2007 l Revised 05.2012
                        Chapter 10
                        Installation Over Existing Floors
                        Part I
                        Existing Floor Requirements
                        A. Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for installation over existing flooring.
                        B. Glue‐down parquet applications that require the use of PVA adhesives are not recommended over existing
sheet vinyl or vinyl and cork tile flooring unless an underlayment is put down first. Underlayment should be in
accordance with adhesive and/or flooring manufacturer’s recommendations.
                        C. Particleboard is not generally an acceptable underlayment, because it lacks stability. Some manufacturers
approve particleboard as an acceptable underlayment, as they do not warrant against subfloor movement. In
                        such cases, follow manufacturer’s recommendation.
                        D. Other types of adhesives may require the use of a primer or vinyl blocker when installing over sheet vinyl or
vinyl and cork tile flooring. Follow adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations.
                        E. Nail‐down applications may be successful over existing sheet vinyl or vinyl tile if fastener penetration is not
significantly diminished and the subfloor meets minimum requirements. Fasteners must penetrate a proper
                        subfloor by at least 5/8”.
                        F. Wood flooring can be installed over existing ceramic tile, terrazzo, or marble with proper underlayment or
                        adhesives only on manufacturer's recommendation.
                        G. Installing wood flooring over an existing wood floor.
Caution: Do not sand any surfaces containing lead based finishes/paints or asbestos. Check applicable local
and federal EPA and OSHA regulations. For buildings built in 1978 and earlier, contact the EPA for lead based
testing prior to any sanding (www.epa.gov).
                        1. If safe to do so (see caution above), sand off old finish and or high spots and prep to clean, dry, sound and
flat. Repair, renail or replace loose flooring products as needed.
                        2. Over an existing glue‐down floor, glue direct to the existing floor. Or, if the thickness of the floor will allow
it, staple to the existing floor. Check with the flooring manufacturer for recommendations.

I know dogs are hard on hardwood. We currently have pergo installed currently and no matter how fast you wipe a spill the flooring mushrooms up. I have a dog and I have family that visits with 2 dogs. I'm wondering how this will stand up over time. I'm really like this look. also are all the planks relatively short? Also are there anti bacterial or anti microbial underlayment for hardwood?

                        A:

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability. Yes we do offer anti microbial underlayments such as Bellawood Premium and Eco Silent Sound HD.
