Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 3-1/4" Brazilian Teak:

I love the Brazilian Teak and have it throughout the house. The problem with the Bellewood is the variation width from plank to plank. Unless you are careful and verify the width of planks in the same row you can end up having permanant gaps of 1 to 2 millimeters. In some cases the gaps have increased over time.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 3-1/4" Brazilian Teak:

We decided to make over our kitchen which lead to a whole downstairs makeover.
I do a lot home improvement projects for myself and my family – this was my third major kitchen renovation.
We had tile and carpet and my wife wanted hardwood. Initially we checked out lumber liquidators and my wife really liked Bellawood exotic hardwoods. We read a lot of reviews that talked about the difficulty of installation and quality control of the individual board widths – so we moved on. It was a rude awakening when we shopped around at other stores with prices well above $10/sq foot so we slowly made our way back to Lumber Liquidators. They happened to have two old boxes of ¾ by 3 ¼ Cumaru on clearance so we bought them and took it home. We loved the color variation and decided to give it a try. Our final order was for over 850 square feet.
Installation was very straight forward. I purchased their Norge 18 gauge floor nailer and used their Norge brand 1 ½ inch cleats. I also purchased the premium underlayment.
I used a table saw for the rip cuts, a compound miter saw for the straight cuts, and a sabre saw for any odd cuts. I also used a multi-tool [in my case a Fein] to undercut the door jams and any existing moulding that was not being removed. The blades on the table and miter saw were standard carbide tipped blades [72 and 40 tooth].
I had no problem cutting these boards. In fact, the threshold I purchased for my front door was too high. I actually ripped one of the boards, rounded the edges with a router, cut one side back at the ¾ inch height and used it as the threshold. Once I put a semi-gloss clear finish on the piece it perfectly matched the prefinished floor. The color of the board is solid throughout. If it ever does scratch you should be able to touch up the finish – no stain required. The wood was easy to work with.

Nailing the floor with the 18 gauge floor nailer was easy. The Norge nailer worked great. The only problem was the air leaks I had right from the start. I used 100 psi and the cleats seated perfectly. The air leak has been a nuisance – the compressor runs more that it should – but I'll deal with that later. Looks like a bad gasket on one of the body sides [and the bolts are already tight]. There is a one year warrantee. The only time the tongue seemed to crack was if the nailer was not square with the wood [slight angle]. Never enough of a crack to mess up installation of the next piece.
The nailer will also fit against the wood in the wrong position which results in face nailing the board [and then removing the board] which is why they have an arrow showing the correct position. I only made that mistake once or twice in the beginning before I got the hang of it.
I did try using an 18 gauge brad nailer to face nail the last row – bad results. The wood is too hard and the brad curls up like a paperclip on the surface of the board. When I could no longer use the floor nailer, first I would predrill and then nail on an angle thru the tongue, then when I could not get the drill on the tongue on a 45 degree angle I would pre drill and face nail. Both times I used a punch to countersink the nail heads. I used 4d 1 ½ inch finish nails. With the variation in the floor you do not see them; however, I will be filling the holes when I am done the whole project.
We are very happy with this floor. Other than hand nailing the last few rows, the installation of this floor was NOT difficult [or any more difficult that laying out any other floor].

I purchased the Brazilian Teak flooring to install living room, dining room and staircase. I hired a professional installer and so glad that we did. This was a big project as the installer had to apply a floor sealer, moisture barrier, plywood, and flooring. The installation took a week and the floor is beautiful. I was a bit nervous as I had read that there was a lot of waste associated with the product. It was not the case. The installer has experience with the product and remark how solid the wood is and how he needs to take his time with the installation as nailing into the product requires precision due to its hardness. It cleaned up well and our home looks great. Planning to do upstairs hallway next year.

The store only had two cases left and offered me a great deal, both for less than what a case goes for. So, I used them in my bathroom instead of tile, it looks great and you won't believe the compliments I get. It just goes to show you never pass up a great deal at LL.

What are the real differences between this floor, which is discontinued and 10033974? I have a whole house of this floor and want more to match my existing floor due to a remodel job. I understand the gloss is different. Is the tongue and groove different? Can the new version connect well with this floor?

the only difference is the sheen on the finish.
