Schön Engineered- 5/16" x 4" Chocolate Sapele Engineered Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Wood floors and water don't mix.  But, Schön Engineered Floors are a perfect match for all areas of the home including those with a higher moisture content like: basements, bathrooms, kitchens, concrete sub-floors, and below grade installation.
Made from several layers of wood bonded together, Schön Engineered Floors overcome typical moisture related reactions remaining flat and intact, in addition to looking exactly like solid wood floors once it is installed!
Schön Floors come in beautiful exotic and domestic species and a 30 year warranty.

Quick Highlights:
- Solid Hardwood Wear Layer
- Superior strength and Stability
- Covered by a 30 Year Warranty
- Nail, Glue Down, or Float... even on concrete floors!

About Engineered Flooring:
Hardwood veneer layers are stacked on one another, with the grain of the adjacent layers oriented perpendicular to each other.
Because wood expands and contracts in the direction of the grain, one layer stabilizes the next, resulting in a product that is less susceptible to the effects of moisture & temperature change.

Comments about Schön Engineered 5/16" x 4" Chocolate Sapele Engineered:

Product was bought because it looks great. Assumed that it would be durable and low maintenance. 5/16 is too thin. Finish wears and scratches easily. Careful about putting any furniture with any sort of weight. Floor dents easily too. Floor looks great but I am concerned for how long.

Comments about Schön Engineered 5/16" x 4" Chocolate Sapele Engineered:

It looks nice and pretty when your done. however not good for long term. You will probably have to replace in 10 years or sooner. Also everything shows up easily, dust, scratches, and footprints. the one thing i did find helpful in cleaning is Dr. Watkins all purpose cleaner its natural and safe to use on wood products. use this along with the Bella wwod floor cleaner by lumber liqudators cleaner u should be good to go. That Dr. Watkins is a life saver pulls the dirt out of most things, warning highly lemony fragrance, if you are allergic to citrus don't do it to yourself. Most of there products are citrusy except the one with the green label. Use that and I promise you would like it.

Comments about Schön Engineered 5/16" x 4" Chocolate Sapele Engineered:

Love the look of the floor - it has an exotic look - perhaps I should have invested in real hardwood rather than engineered -because this wood is too soft and dents very easily. Also, I am frustrated trying to stop the smudging. I am hoping over time this problem will go away. Very disappointed and will have to invest in several area rugs to minimize the foot prints and paw prints from my dog.

Comments about Schön Engineered 5/16" x 4" Chocolate Sapele Engineered:

Like the muscle car of the 80's this floor looked great in the showroom and was very affordable but I can tell it won't last very long. After installing it in our great room we found it scratches and dents easily. Before we even moved into our house I had several large dents (through a layer of cardboard and paper) from tools falling onto the floor. I think the dark color makes everything more noticeable but it clearly is softer than others.

On the plus side it looks great and there is little of the clickity-clickity of some other floors. The color is really stunning.

We are resigned to the fact that we'll need to replace it in five or six years.

I laid down 2,700 square feet. The installation went well. Product was consistent and uniform among boxes. I'm using it in the kitchen. When I tipped the dishwasher over to make some connections, the sharp edges on the bottom marred the floor. I was a little surprised that the finish was not more durable. However since it is so very dark I think it shows scuffs more than a lighter color.

how do I measure a stair case for flooring
Asked on 5/24/2013 by norman from florida

              1 answer

              • Staff Reviewer

                A:

Measure each tread, length x width, Example; 34" x 11" = 374 divide by 144 to get sq ft =2.59 sq ft. add 5 % (10% for exotics) for waste factor.
Do the same for the risers if they are being done, Example; 34” x 7” = 1.65 sq ft.
                2.59 + 1.65 = 4.67 sq ft.
On standard width stairs (34" wide) 5 sq ft per step should cover it.
                Thank you for writing in.

OK so I plan on puting this in a bedroom. A LOT of the reviews said it wasn't strong and it scratch very easily. But I guess some of that depends on where you put the wood. So would it be the best idea to put it in a bedroom???

Can this be installed using the floating floor technique or glue down. If so, plase explain the floating floor technique, the approximate cost for a 700 square foot area, and which technique is recommended. The home is 7 years old and the floor would be installed over a concrete slab. Thanks.

            • Q:

We bought 1800 feet of this product and just began the installation. The first 12 or so boxes were all the same length variation (18" and 24"). So, we used this same pattern for two rooms. The next five boxes opened had lengths of 12" and 30", which is now really ruining our pattern. The SKUs, lot numbers, manufactue date, etc. are all identical. I found nothing on any reference online that indicates what sizes we can expect. What should we do? This is a bit disappointing to say the least, and the installer is really mad.

                A:

                Yes you can.
                Flat concrete
                • A flat cement surface is very important when gluing down ridged solid wood. The final surface must be flat to within 1/8" in a 6' radius, or within 3/16” in 10’. Sand or grind down high spots. Fill valleys or low areas with cement based leveling compounds compatible with the flooring adhesives. Allow extra drying time for the leveling compounds. Do not install on new concrete less than 60-90 days old.
