    Comments about 15LB Felt Paper:

I put this under a pre-finished, red oak floor. Noise was a non-issue. The room was interior, so heat transfer a non-issue.

This product works just fine for what I wanted. Very easy to cut and place on subfloor, easy to install planks onto paper and much less expensive than the other lines. This product is not for everyone, but worked for me.

This product worked great & was less costly than that sold locally in other stores. We used it when installing our new Strand bamboo flooring over an older wood floor that was too stained & worn to refinish. Did the prep work, stapled the felt down & cleat nailed our new floor planks- NO SQUEAKS! Love it!!!

About 10 feet into the roll, there was a fold that ran for about 8-10 feet. It caused a tear that made that part impossible to use at full width. Otherwise, fine.

The product unrolled easily and the lines on the paper helped to keep things straight. At one point it was left in the sunlight too long and melted a little bit. User error!

I am installing bamboo (nail down). Sub floor is 2x6 T&G over a crawlspace.
Question #1: I want to put 1/4" plywood down over the T&G - is that sufficient, or do I need at least 3/8"?
Question #2: Do I put a vapor barrier between the T&G and the plywood, or between the plywood and bamboo, or both?
Question #4: Is 15lb felt paper a good choice for this? Is the white silicone vapor paper better? (I do have some dampness in the crawlspace.)

                              1. Minimum of 3/8˝CDX panel thickness is recommended when used as an underlayment over an existing subfloor.
                              2. The vapor barrier should be placed between the plywood and bamboo.
                              4. In this application both vapor barrier provide the same amount of moisture protection.
You can find complete installation instructions on the flooring product page by clicking on the installation tab and then clicking on - Installation Guide.

I purchased a 12mm laminate with the pad attached from LL but have discovered some dips and valleys in the wood sub-floor on the upstairs level where this will be installed. Could this felt paper be used to level out the floor and then a vapor barrier over it. If so, is there any problems with the anything in this felt paper that would eat or deteriorate the vapor barrier or padding on the laminate??? Thanks

Felt paper can be used to level low areas and won't eat the padding.

Leveling Options; Sand high areas or joints, use wood shims wedged between joists and the subfloor to raise it. Protruding nails/staples should be ground flat. Build-up low spots with layers of 15 lb builders felt, old vinyl, plywood or shims (do not use cement leveling compounds).

No. This is a good vapor barrier but not used under floating flooring. You can use either Foam Underlayment, Eco Silent Sound, Bellawood Premium Underlayment, or Quiet Walk underlayment for floating floors.

                          • Q:

Can i use this under my laminate wood flooring with pad already attached? I just bought 500sq ft of Dream Home - Nirvana PLUS 10mm Madison River Elm Laminate wood flooring. Its spec's are 10mm moisture-resistant core PLUS a 2mm pre-glued sound-proofing foam underlay. It is being installed in a singlewide mobile home that had carpet over plywood. I have removed the carpet and repaired all imperfections in the plywood under it. I have been told not to use an extra padding like the "ECO Silent Sound underlayment" or the "quiet walk" because it will cause it to feel to "springie" due to the fact it already has a padding on it. I was also advisded not to use 6mil polly sheeting because it will not let the plywood breath ( in a mobile home with crawl space under the home ) and eventually cause it to trap the moisture and damage the plywood.

                            please advise. thank you.

15lb felt paper is a vapor barrier and not a moisture barrier. 15lb felt paper or White Silcone Paper could be used if you suspect some moisture vapor from the crawlspace.

Laminates having pre-attached padding can be installed over an underlayment. When doing so, Lumber Liquidators recommends the use of our Bellawood Premium underlayment or ECO Silent Sound underlayment. These quality underlayments will best support the joints while ensuring superior thermal sound reduction qualities and are highly recommended for use with condominium associations, project planners and building specifiers.

i am putting down 3/4 hardwood floor and purchased Dream Home Insulayment with it ... after reading up, I believe I need a moisture barrier as the floor will be over a garage and unheated basement...Do I put black felt paper under my insulayment as the cheapest solution? wish I bought the sound barrier with the moisture barrier in it instead, but it is too late

When using 15lb pound felt for underlayment, why is it not recommended to overlap the felt? I was also wondering if 30 lb felt would be applicable for Virginia Mill Works Engineered 1/2" x 5" Cheyenne Birch Handscraped for underlayment over 3/4" plywood subfloor with a nail down application?

We recommend overlapping the 15lb. felt paper 3-4 inches. Thank you for your inquiry
