Comments about Casa de Colour 3/4" x 5" Koka Oak:

Installation was in my contemporary style living room and adjoining dining room. It is a very beautiful and dramatic look. Several people told me that the dark wood would show every speck of dust and that I would be constantly dusting it but I have not found that to be the case. I am extremely pleased with the end result!

    Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was prompt and as promised. There was some damaged flooring inside the cartons which appears to have been done at the factory since the cartons looked fine. As a result, we had to order an additional box to finish the job. That was a little inconvenient since the new carton of flooring had to be climatized for an additional 3 days which delayed the installation.

Comments about Casa de Colour 3/4" x 5" Koka Oak:

My husband and I debated endlessly about which floors to choose, and are very happy that we went with the Koka Oak finish from Lumber Liquidators. We've had them for about 2 months now and still love them.

We had our contractor install them, so can't say anything about installation.

We were nervous because we'd heard that dark floors show dirt easily and get scratched easily. I must admit that both of these things are true, but not as bad as we'd feared. Our floor does have some minor scratches on it, but they're not that noticeable. You have to be close to it, and in the right light to see them. Also, the dust and dirt will show after about a week, but a quick run with a swiffer takes care of it. We were aware of these issues when we made our choice, so it's not that big of a deal to us.

Overall, it is worth the extra bit of maintenance for how beautiful the floors are. The color is gorgeous, and it does not make the room look smaller at all. We have the wider (5 inch) planks in the family room, and the smaller (3.5 inch) planks in the bedroom, and we love both. In the end, the width doesn't make that much of a difference, so if you're waffling you might want to go with the smaller size to save some $.

    Overall we are very pleased.

        A:

The Koka Oak is not a handscrapped product. Our closest handscrapped floors this color are the Knob Hill Birch, product number 10011322; and the Castle Park Oak, product number 10022497. • CUSTOMER CARE

        A:

Hardwood, engineered, laminate (higher warranty laminate is better in high traffic areas like kitchens), cork, and high warranty bamboo (Morning Star) is acceptable for installation in a kitchen, but we highly recommend you put a throw rug by the sink because an excess of water can damage any floor. Spills should be toweled up promptly.

Can I put a coating on this to make it water (dog pee) proof?

      1 answer

      • CUSTOMER CARE

        A:

Prefinished flooring should not be sealed after installation and does void the warranty. Sealing between boards (seams) will crack during normal expansion and contraction. In addition sealer won't adhere to original finish unless it's lightly sanded and then use a water based flooring grade urethane.

    • Q:

Most of the floors in our house are oak. We've decided to put some kind of wood floor in our 2 bedrooms but don't want to use oak again because it would mean moving all of our furniture out -- a TON of work -- so ALL of the floors could be sanded and refinished. From a design standpoint, is it acceptable to use a different type and color of wood in these two areas -- these floors would butt up to the oak in the other areas.

        A:

This is a solid 3/4" product designed to be nailed to a wood substrate.
But can be installed over concrete using our Elastilon underlayment.
What you should know about Elastilon Strong
An Elastilon-backed wood floor is much faster to install than traditional nail or glue-down methods.
Elastilon Strong can be installed on new concrete floors, handling up to 3.9% moisture content. A vapour barrier of at least 6 mil PE should be used below grade and on newly poured concrete above grade where the moisture content is above 3.9%.
Laid down with a 5/8” (15 mm) expansion gap, Elastilon Strong creates a dynamic, floating floor that expands or contracts naturally with the hardwood.
Elastilon Strong has no odor and is free of volatile materials.
        Elastilon Strong gives cushioned comfort.
1/8” (3 mm) thick Elastilon Strong has ratings of IIC 62 and STC 54.
        Thermal resistance: R _ 0,15 (m K) / W
Elastilon Strong carries a 70-year limited warranty.
