The Unexplained!

By ALVA Installer

from Northern NJ.

  • Split Grain Boards

Best Uses

Flat sawn grain pattern looks too much like plywood surface. Was not notified anywhere that some boards have two different grain patterns that look like imperfections. Otherwise, installed and performed as advertised. Lumber Liquidators did credit five boxes of split grain boards.

A Beautiful Floor at a Great Price

    • Easy To Install
    • Nice color variations

    • Easily dented

    Best Uses

This floor is perfect for my new kitchen--just don't roll the refrigerator over it! That was an oops on my part--should have known better. I don't think a solid floor would have dented as badly as this did.

      Service and delivery comments:

The floor arrived at your store before I expected it and it was in perfect condition. I needed an additional box to finish the job and it arrived even faster. As usual, the guys in your Buffalo store are great. They always answer my questions and have some good suggestions.

Wood floors like furniture will scratch and dent if not properly protected. It is recommended to use felt furniture pads under the furniture legs. Pet nails should be kept trimmed and sharp objects (including high heels) kept off the floor. Often scratches can be adequately repaired using liquid scratch covers. Dents and nicks can be filled using wood floor repair kits available at your local home store. Many dog scratches can be prevented by covering their nails with vinyl claw covers. If your floor is severely damaged please consult a professional about refinishing or an individual board replacement may be all that’s needed. Scuffs can often be removed by rubbing the spot with mineral spirits on a cloth rag. Thank you for your inquiry.

Just installed the Schon flooring and want to preserve the beautiful new finish! What product(s) can I use to seal the surface before moving the heavy furniture back in?

We can only recommend our Bellawood Floor Cleaner, or cleaners that are safe for water based urethane finishes. Never use any polish, wax, oil soaps or cleaners that add shine to the floor. You could reseal prefinished flooring after it is installed, but this would void the finish warranty on the flooring and create extra expense for you after already buying a new floor with a 20, 30, or 50yr finish warranty. Adding a new finish won’t prevent all moisture from going into the seams. Wood will expand and contract with climate changes. If the flooring were to contract later and create seasonal gapping, a spill can cause water to get into the gaps. It is best to only add a new finish when the old finish starts to wear more than you like or if you have a lot of scratches you want covered up. We recommend that you use a professional sand and finish expert if you did decide to add a new finish to the flooring. Thank you for your inquiry.
