Builder's Pride - 3/8" x 3" Red Oak Engineered Flooring- 50 Year Warranty

Wood floors and water don't mix.  But, Builder's Pride Engineered Floors are a perfect match for all areas of the home including those with a higher moisture content like: basements, kitchens, concrete sub-floors, and below grade installation.

About Builder's Pride:
Builder's Pride by Dura-Wood brings the beauty of a solid prefinished hardwood floor to your home. Beautiful flooring, easy to install and with a 50 Year warranty so these floors will amaze you for years.

Quick Highlights:
- Solid Hardwood Wear Layer
- Superior strength and Stability
- Covered by a 50 Year Warranty
- Nail, Glue Down, or Float... even on concrete floors!

This product is also a good choice for installation over radiant heat sources and below grade applications.

About Red Oak:
Red Oak is America's most popular wood floor choice!
It is the benchmark for strength serving as the industry standard of hardness with a Janka hardness rating or 1,290. Its reddish-brown color tones give rooms of any style - from rustic to contemporary - a warm and cozy feeling.
Red Oak will retain its beauty through years of wear and is almost unaffected upon sunlight exposure.

About Engineered Flooring:
Hardwood veneer layers are stacked on one another, with the grain of the adjacent layers oriented perpendicular to each other.
Because wood expands and contracts in the direction of the grain, one layer stabilizes the next, resulting in a product that is less susceptible to the effects of moisture & temperature change.

Don't forget the molding and stair treads!
Click here to find our extensive selection of moldings & accessories for you to match wood species to your new floor.

Easy install with stapler. Looks nice. Note that the cut of the wood is different from a solid red oak floor, but it still looks great.

I should have looked at the wood more carefully before starting the installation. Even using just the best pieces with the nicest grain, the step landings looked like they were sheathed with glossy plywood. I was very tempted to pull it back up and start over with another product, but decided the landings would need throw rugs for sound control and non-slip protection. Once the 2'x3' throw rugs were affixed to the landings leaving only the ends of the boards exposed it looked acceptable. If the risers and landings hadn't been of such excellent quality the flooring wouldn't have looked nearly as awful as it did.

We love our new flooring! We installed this floor ourselves with the help of a friend and it was super easy. Stapling is definitely the way to go. It's a lot easier and faster than using glue. We put this flooring in our entire house, except for our master bedroom (we had new carpet installed in there). This red oak floor has a beautiful golden color and has a nice shine to it. It's MUCH nicer than our old laminate that we had. It definitely has a lot of character. It's also very easy to clean. It's a very low maintenance floor, which I love, especially with having pets. I saw in some other reviews that people were complaining about dark knots, but we didn't notice that at all. We have a few pieces of flooring that have some small dark spots on them, but we think they make the floor look even more beautiful and add even more character. We have gotten so many compliments from friends and family on our new floor. We highly recommend it!

Dark knots, but good price, easy install

        By John

        Pros

        • Easy To Install
        • Good price

        Cons

        • Dark Knots

        Best Uses

The wood installed easily. It was glued down to a concrete floor using glue with a built-in vapor barrier. Pieces were held in place by painters tape till the glue set. Some pieces have very dark knots, which are not very attractive. I should have looked over all the pieces before installing and put the dark knots in an inconspicuous place

Can the Schon engineered red oak be sanded ?
              Asked on 4/15/2014 by Eli

              1 answer

              • Staff Reviewer

                A:

The veneer thickness is 2mm. To restore the original shine of a solid hardwood, bamboo, cork, and engineered floor a screen and re-coat may be needed or a complete refinishing. A professional sand and finish expert would have to make the determination on site on which sanding process will be needed or which can be done to restore the floors shine. Not all engineered floors can be refinished because of having a thin veneer layer.
