Mapei Ultrabond 905

DESCRIPTION

Ultrabond 905 is a fast-curing, 100%-solids, moisture-cured urethane gun-grade adhesive designed for basic wood subfloor construction practices as well as wood-flooring repair, wood stair nosings, wood molding, baseboards, and tack strip attachment to concrete subfloors. Ultrabond 905 is also a general-purpose construction adhesive suitable for use in both interior and exterior applications. Ultrabond 905 exceeds all requirements of AFG-01 and ASTM D3498-03 for bonding plywood to lumber framing.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

• Guns easily and is nonsag

• Low VOC content and 100%-solids formulation

• Fast-curing for overnight repairs

• High bond strength

• Moisture-resistant

• Suitable for use for interior and exterior application

INDUSTRY STANDARDS AND APPROVALS

Exceeds AFG-01 and ASTM D3498-03 requirements for field bonding plywood to lumber framing for floor systems

WHERE TO USE

• For the bonding of most common construction materials such as plywood to lumber framing, wood flooring, wood moldings and baseboards, carpet tack strip, polystyrene insulation board fascia installation and insulation board

• Interior/exterior residential (rental apartments, condominiums, homes)

• Interior/exterior commercial (office buildings, hotel rooms and hallways, restaurant dining areas)

• Interior/exterior heavy commercial (hotel lobbies, convention centers, airports, department stores)

• Interior/exterior institutional (hospitals, schools, universities, libraries, government buildings)

LIMITATIONS

• Do not install over any substrates containing asbestos.

• Do not apply over any adhesive residues including cutback adhesive.

• Use only when the substrate temperature is between 20F and 100F (-7C and 38C). Low temperatures and humidity will extend cure times.

• Do not use as a substitute for screws when installing plywood subfloors. All plywood subfloors must be installed according to APA or CANPLY guidelines.

SUITABLE SUBSTRATES

• Exterior-grade plywood and other approved wood underlayments (per flooring manufacturer recommendations)

• Concrete and properly prepared cement terrazzo

• Existing and properly prepared ceramic tile

• Cement-based self-leveling underlayments and patching compounds

• Properly prepared and primed gypsum underlayments that meet the requirements for compressive strength according to ASTM F2419

• Radiant-heat systems that have been properly installed

Consult MAPEI's Technical Services Department for installation recommendations regarding substrates and conditions not listed.

SURFACE PREPARATION

• All substrates must be structurally sound, dry, solid, and stable.

• Substrate should be clean and free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, curing agents, concrete sealers, loosely bonded toppings, loose particles, old adhesive residues, and any other substance or condition that may prevent or reduce adhesion.

• Concrete and cement-based underlayments and patches must be fully cured and free of any hydrostatic and/or moisture problems.

• Refer to MAPEI's Surface Preparation Requirements document for floor-covering installation systems at www.mapei.com .

MIXING

Note: Wear all appropriate personal safety equipment during use. Refer to Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for more information.

• Ready to use; no mixing necessary

PRODUCT APPLICATION

1. Read all installation instructions thoroughly before installation.

2. Insert cartridge into a suitable caulking gun.

3. Cut tip and puncture inner seal.

4. Apply a serpentine bead of adhesive to the properly prepared substrate.

5. Only apply as much adhesive as can be installed within 30 minutes under normal temperature and humidity conditions.

6. Set time may be accelerated by a light misting of water over the extruded adhesive before installing materials to be bonded. (Do not puddle water.)

CLEANUP

• Immediately clean any adhesive smudges from the flooring material's surface with Ultrabond Urethane Cleaner while the adhesive is still fresh/wet.

• Immediately clean tools with Ultrabond Urethane Cleaner while the adhesive is still fresh/wet.

Note: Ultrabond 905 can only be removed by mechanical means when cured.

PROTECTION

• Protect from light traffic for at least 12 hours. Protect from heavy traffic for at least 24 hours.

• Building owners should be advised of the wood flooring manufacturer's guidelines for climate control settings (temperature and humidity). These conditions must be monitored and kept constant in order to ensure the overall performance and long-term success of the installation.
