This is regarding the evaluation of the samples of wood flooring submitted for evaluation. The objective was to determine the best adhesive recommendation for the samples considered to be difficult to bond. For this test, Walnut, Teak, and Mesquite wood flooring were submitted in strip format (3/8" x 3"), Golden Teak was in a plank format (3/4" x 4 3/4").
The samples of each wood variety were evaluated for tensile bond strength at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after being installed with Ultrabond 980 and Ultrabond 990. The results of this bond evaluation indicated that both the Ultrabond 980 and 990 bonded to each wood product. The average improvement in bond strength between the Ultrabond 980 and Ultrabond 990 was judged to be significant and would warrant its use for these more demanding wood types.
Based on this evaluation MAPEI can recommend the Ultrabond 990 for the installation of the wood products as referenced above. The trowel that would be recommended for these applications should achieve a minimum 85% transfer and would include 1/4" x 1/4" x 1/4" square notch or 1/4" x 3 / 16 " 1/2" trowel as shown on the technical data sheet. Installation should proceed in accordance with industry standards and MAPEI's most current written recommendations.
